Hubby wants to get a horse !!!!!!!!!!!

well its a good thing I'm not 29 stone then! I'm about 17 at the moment and so far he's been fine with me.

Get him a Clydesdale, you won't be disappointed (says a totally unbiased person lol). They will turn their hoof to anything you ask.

But..........if you do opt for a 'heavy' do not be tempted by anything that has started its ridden career too soon. They are slow to mature breeds and need plenty of time to grow up before physical pressures are applied.

Just because a horse was bred to pull weight doesn't mean he can't also carry weight but (as with all the bigguns) patience is a virtue.

On another note, most heavies will lift their legs very high in trot and canter - they bounce rather than float, if you know what I mean. You do get used to it but it is part of the breed.

I wish my oh wanted a horse :( he doesn't like horses or mud or cold.... He has sat on my 14.3 hh elderly mare but neither of them were very impressed ... OP, you're super lucky your oh has got so involved!
