I spent the weekend at center parcs and as it was Kiri's birthday on Sunday Kiri, my mum, a friend and I arranged to go trekking locally. Not only did we have a fantastic time but it really gave me a confidence boost with regard to starting Tilly under saddle.

My horse was a very sweet but very, very green 5 year old (was told if I wasn't happy with riding him, especially as he had bucked his rider off the previous weekend! then I could have something else but I figured it would be good practice if nothing else!)

We started off fine, he didn't bat an eyelid as we waited for a train to pass near a level crossing, not one spook at anything. However, when we broke into canter he was very strong and everytime I took a pull or he saw some space up the side of the horse in front (we were quite near the back) we had a few sucessive "Yipee, lets go!" bucks - and they weren't little bucks either. Infact we had lots of bucking on each of the canters we did

But I ended the ride feeling a huge sense of achievement for not falling off - specially as I was wearing a new hat! And it really gave me an enormous confidence boost that I can ride a young horse and ride it through the exciting moments.

Now I just need a remedy for an achy upper body as 3 hours on a very strong horse is quite wearing

Also, just wanted to add how very proud I was of my mum - until sunday se still hadn't established the rising trot and had only had around 5 lessons in the lasy year. We explained all this to the center but mum also said she was happy to try a canter - by the end of it not only had she perfected the rthymn of the trot and was rising to it nicely but she'd also happily cantered each canter in a forward seat and didn't even wobble!!! She now can't wait til next year when I told her she can start having the odd lesson and hack on Till's and until then has decided to join a local hacking group at a local riding school!

So Huge thanks and praise to the White Horse Trekking Center for giving us such a brilliant ride and looking after us so well!

Wow well done! I'm really pleased for you - it's funny how something like that can make you feel like an adequate rider isn't it?! (Not that you aren't, I've seen photos!) but it's nice to feel like you've got somewhere that you might have had confidence for in the past.

Can't wait for pictures of the lovely Tilly when you get her going

Well done sounds like just what you needed.
I'm constantly being nagged to go to Centre Parcs, but always seems too expensive.
Did you have any joy with finding a new yard? I was taling to afriend Saturday who is based at the smaller yard you were looking at, with her two youngsters and brood/dressage mare.
She was full of praise for it and thought it would be fantastic for you, if you can get in.

Ahh, its very cheap on certain weeks/weekends of the year!!! Thats why we always go in January!! My uni mates and I are looking to go away there at the end of september and its £565 for an 8 bed cabin for a monday - friday break!! With a 20% discount as we've already been this year it works out about £60/head for 4 nights (5 days) - not bad!!

I have resloved things with my YO for the moment http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/sh...rue#Post1602613 but am still keeping my options open. Is your friend at sally's yard? Could you ask her for me what the livery is there and what she gets for that as I have only been going off what I was told 2 years ago! Also, ask her if she would like someone to hack out with come the summer!!

Oh that sounds like such fun! I think you needed that, just to have some fun! And well done sitting thoses bucks, don't think I would have!

I love Centre Parcs!

She is at Sally's though I don't know if she's been there long. I'm seeing her in a couple of weeks so can talk to her then.
She does a lot of teaching and you could do worse than get her to help with Ginn, she's extremely capable. She probably hacks, but is very dressage and doesn't keep her competition horses there - just youngsters and brood mare. she was talking about getting broodmare (Advanced Medium) horse back into work I think so may be up for going out & about (though don't know if the old mare would set the best example!!

Well I may be calling on her for lessons then! Could you pm me her name as I may have heard of her if she teaches locally? Do you know if she would be prepared to give me a few lessons on one of her horses to get mmy riding up to scratch before I start till's?

She teaches at Aderro, so they may have school horses they teach on. Name is Andrea Sexton and a dam good teacher she is & very jolly - which we like as we bumble around a lot

You are bound to have heard of her , but I'll pm you her number.

Yep, name rings a bell though can't think where I have seen it?? Maybe through the riding club or advertised locally? What level does she ride/teach at out of interest?
