As title says and because reading some posts on HHO, seems prices are really high in UK..( And I thought my yard was expensive )
Everything included (turnout, rugs on and off, basic vet care, lunging or riding -which I never use - hay soaked because of old boy's allergies, of course hard feed + hay twice a day...) for € 350 euros / £ 260 ! (would be double that in the Paris area)
Purchasing power and cost of living def higher in UK but I guess my yard is pretty good value considering...Have a look: www.cheval-toulouse.com

Ive mentioned this before also as its the same here. Denmark is a notoriously expensive country but my horse is on a top class yard and we pay the equivalent of 250 pounds a month.

That includes all feed (3 times a day), bedding, mucking out, grooming, horse walker, use of all facilities (2 indoors, 3 outdoors, solarium, paddocks, off road hacking tracks, horse showers, heated tackroom and cafe; which includes a free hot and cold drink machine..)

You can see pictures of where my boy is on my blog:-

http://dressage.wordpress.com under "Denmark; the Saga" area.

Interesting to compare that with Spain.... I've been quoted about £250 a month for full livery, including, hay, haylege, straw or shavings and hard feed and obviously all the work done as well...

Wow! Cost of living is so much cheaper in France. I was investigating the cost of studying in Belguim for a year and was astonished to discover I could rent a student room in Leuven for £250 a month inc utility bills.

I think livery prices are a lot here because of the difficulty in finding staff. Few people want to do horse work now and those that do dont want to run livery yards for someone else. Hence YOs struggle to get help and pass on the cost to liveries.

Looks like you have rather a good deal there!

Plus it is MUCH cheaper to compete in france, you don't have to affiliate with the different diciplines, just the one and think that was very cheap too. Then all entries and prize money is done online (that was certainly my understanding - may have lost the plot in translation somewhere!)

Not suprised my EDT now commutes from france!

Your yard looks and sounds nice ! We have a walker too but no indoor (southwest of France though !) but floodlights in the outdoor.
Yep ! Strange about UK considering there are probably many more horses and horse owners than anywhere else in Europe... Surely, competition is fierce and should make for lower prices ?
There is no half livery or DIY in France. How about in Denmark?

That's right about affiliating, you do it once and it goes for all the disciplines.
Everything is done online but riders complain that prize money is really peanuts now !
EDT ?

EDT - Equine Dental Technician!! He has the British Equine veterinary association qualification!! he is highly recommended if you need to get your horses teeth done and covers all areas of france now!!

bet we still get less prize money - particulaly with relation to the costs!!

Think the issue is that the UK is an island which is highly populated and these livery services have high land values. Sure you could get very cheap livery but it would be miles from anywhere so would cost you as fortune in fuel to get there (which is also much more expensive!!)Just a thought!!

Interesting about your EDT... There are more and more of them in France now. trouble is that their qualification/practice is not officially recognized by government here. Vets usually do the job as if anything happens with sedation or surgery (ie pulling out wolf tooth) EDTs are not covered by insurance...They're not even supposed to administer shots or anything ! Some of them have a very good reputation though...

Well one of the top dressage yards over here charges €400 per week for full schooling livery.

Noooooooo way !!!
Mind you, sometimes wonder if Ireland is not getting more expensive than UK...

Very little DIY or part livery to be found here. There are either people on full livery, or people with their horses at home.

Id agree with what others have said about the tax. Sure, our income taxes are much higher, but we dont have anywhere near as many other taxes as the UK do.

I can pay extra to have my horse school by our chief rider who was a former young rider, currently competing at GP dressage and coaches the danish young rider teams for the equivalent of 10 pounds per week.

Thats for 5 days and an hour a day

I'd imagine Britain is more expensive for everything because we adhere to the European Unions laws about Health & Safety etc, (which a lot of Europe doesn't seem to) so insurance is higher, a lot of yards are taxed on the size of their indoor schools/stables at the same rate as an Industrial unit, and the cost of living/buying/renting homes is higher than a lot of other countries so all this adds up to seem a lot to pay, whereas I don't suppose yards make much profit.

Interesting points. Yes things are cheaper here and it would be great if you earned a UK wage. Would also love to have PAYE, so much simpler to keep track. That said though, wouldn't really consider going back to the UK.

Hi. I generally agree with the above postings from the other French residents. I am just pleased to win ANY prizemoney, and the sobering thing is that on the FFE website, you can see exactly how much you spent on entry fees, AND HOW MUCH YOU WON!however, many shows give prizes in kind as well, and I have a lovely range of posh coffee sets, tablecloths, wine, rose bushes and shrubs, very much appreciated. Yes, its better here for many reasons.

I pay £125pm for DIY livery! Add to that hay, bedding, feed, shoes, insurance, wormers, vet, and any other bits and pieces I need to get and I suppose my horse costs me about £250pm if I averaged it out over a year.
Yard doesn't offer much, there's an outdoor school and that's it as far as facilities are concerned, No indoor, no horse walker, no hacking on own land, or any of the other 'niceties' that others have!

There's assisted livery at a cost of course, turn out and bring in £2 (so £4 for both) muck out, hay, feed, water £6, change rugs £1 so if you want any extras you could be looking at £10 - £12 a day on top! We try and keep costs down by liveries helping each other out when we can. Yard owner does it all herself as she doesn't employ any staff and you have to book in advance if you want any 'extras' so she can fit you in.
