Huge dilemma re 'neglected' horse (please read fully, it's fairly amusing)

Do you know anyone who could buy him off her for you (without her knowing) so the price doesn't jump up stupidly because of the work you've put in on him?
 
stop riding the horse theres a big smelly rat offer to buy now yourself or through a third party i know this situation a has happened to a few people over the years horses need worked,ridden, fed, vets bills one was two years later and owner surfaced and sold fit healthy now well hacked out shown pony for 2,200 teenage carer had spent every penny over two years on livery bills , and time and effort didnt have a penny broken hearted and owner never even gave her a tenpence chomp
 
April Blossom, as you know I am not far away and could always pop down to see the horse you are riding. I don't mind being your buyer if that helps, quite good at buying bargins !!

Jen, I've got a friend who's had a number of youngsters coming to visit this weekend and i'm gonna sit her on him and if she thinks there's potential there I shall persevere and may well take you up on that offer! If not, I'm walking away, and quite possibly to your yard! lol :)

It's a private yard - basically the rather large back garden of a mahoosive house, and don't think they've ever advertised for liveries (even though they've just lost one, and now only have the £5 a month livery and their daughter's pony) so pretty unheard of!
 
UPDATE - I've just returned from a 2 week holiday (friend was keeping horse ticking over until his feet got completely too long, as owner did not turn up to have his feet trimmed and would not answer her phone when YO/liveries tried calling her) I personally think YO should have had it done as their responsibility for horses welfare and had the owner not DONE A RUNNER LAST WEEK WITH THE HORSE I'd have been seriously considering calling mr RSPCA about the overgrown-ness of his feet.

Glad I didn't make any further financial contributions to it, but I do feel sorry for the poor horse.
 
So glad you didn't get seriously stung on this one, but unless owner has moved a long distance away, it's a small world, and she'll turn up, like the proverbial. Let's hope she does actually sell the horse to someone responsible - he sounded a promising sort of chap.Unfortunately there are only too many people out there willing to take advantage of someone's age/good nature/trust and then shaft them royally. I've seen it myself on more than one occasion over the years, and also quite recently. It's unforgiveable, and they are gits, all of them! Hope your next horse experience is much happier. You never know, he might just turn up locally again, and you can revert to Plan A with a third party purchase.;)
 
I know people are saying walk away, she's using you, yada yada but does this matter to you?

If you enjoy working the horse and increasnig the chances of the horse securing a good home and working life in the future, then does this really bother you? does the money side of things bother you enough to walk away?

Offer to buy the horse now as it stands, but if the owner is too ignorant or too tight to folk out for things that the horse requires, I'd be telling her straight, no pussy footing around, maybe she needs offending for a wake up call, after all you can't do the best for the horse if she's not willing to regonise when her horse needs the farrier.

Either way, hope you can work something out. :)
 
I am bringing a horse on for someone and they are completely different. I have been told the horse is mine and anything I need or think he should have they will sort for me. I have been told to be careful as it is a lot of work and there is always the risk that you lose the ride when they are going great but knowing the owner I can't imagine that happening. Your situation sounds like you should walk. You are more than likely right that the horse will be sold behind your back. Unless you are 100%, don't do anymore.
