My mare came in with a wee lump on her chest (very close to her armpits - if that makes sense?) it was barely a handful, a wee bit warm, quite fluidy with a wee bit of firmness.
Just been up to give her her dinner and it's nw about the size of a tennis ball!
It's nearly doubled in size since yesterday, still firm but fluidy.
Does anyone have any ideas? Possibly a haematoma? I haven't really a clue about them (though she possibly had one last year but I think it was more like an infection)

I've given her a sachet of danilon tonight and put one in her breakfast too, will it help?

Thanks, Emma x

My horse got a massive lump (two actually) like this after he'd had his annual jab. I was horrified as they literally grew before my eyes and he actually had two hanging off the front of his chest like a very impressive pair of breasts! The vet said it was a reaction to the injection and it went down within a day or two max. Was very frightened to see them grow so know how you feel. We hosed them down (fortunately it was summer).

i would say heamathoma you will have to call the vet to slice it open drain it and they will prob put her on a course of abs, a heamathoma will not go on its own!

I have cold hosed it tonight.
The swelling has gone down about a fifth from yesterday so have continued with Danilon and will do again for next 2 days or so.
If it doesn't carry on improving I'll get the vet out

My boy had this - looked exactly like a pair of testicles hanging down between his front legs.

General (experienced) opinion on the yard was that it was a haematoma. Horsey was not at all bothered about it, no other symptoms and as it was a Friday afternoon I decided to give it till Monday (or call emergency vet over W/E if it got worse)

I gave him a bute that evening and cold hosed it twice a day for a few days gently massaging it at the same time (mine was in summer too).

I was advised that gentle exercise was a good idea as it got the fluids moving around the body so I took him out in quiet ridden walk for about 20 mins per day for several days.

It started to go down after a couple of days and disappeared completely within about 5.

As it happened the vet was booked anyway to do his jabs and I showed him the remaining swelling. He confirmed that it was indeed a haematoma and I had done the right things. We think it was due to a kick in the field.

I think you are right though to be ready to call out the vet if ned gets worse or shows any other symptoms.

Good luck.
