Looking for Opinions:

My mare just turned 5 and was having her teeth floated and the vet decided to pull her wolf teeth. I told her only if it needed to be done and she said it did.
She attempted for 45 minutes to pull the first tooth which broke into several peices. She then told me she would come back in two days to finish as both her and my horse were out of strength and patience.

She came back and pulled the last piece of tooth, which took another 30 minutes, and informed me she was not going to pull the other one as it was snug against the molar and would be more difficult to pull than the first one was.
I've never had wolf teeth pulled and this was a horrible experience for both my horse and myself.

Is it okay to leave a tooth in?? With the tooth breaking into pieces I do not see how she could have pulled the root, what are the chances of problems developing with this tooth?

This vet is the best out of 3 in my city and she's always been good with my horse. Any advice would be appreciated.

There are no equine dentists near my city and my vet is the most highly recommended for teeth floating and dental issues.

I would certainly be wanting a EDT to come out and see her.
Even if i had to pay for someone to come from a different city.

Sounds like your vet has messed up big time here.

I'm also struggling to understand why she wanted to pull wolf teeth in a 5yr old...were they causing ridden issues?
If not they probably could have stayed in without a problem.

That does not sound good at all, are you in the UK ? my 5 year old has just had a large wolf tooth removed, but by my vet under sedation, he had to lever the gum away from the tooth, it was also jammed up to the molar and had a lot of bit damage, so he could then get the instrument under the side of the tooth and lever it out, even with sedation my horse was not keeping his head entirely still but thankfully vet managed to lever it out in one peice. No way would the edt attempt to just pull a big wolf tooth, its not good news it has broken into bits, that could cause a possible problem with bits of tooth still stuck in the gum.

I am located in Ontario Canada. There are no equine dentists-believe me I have been looking-there is one other vet that I've already had a bad experience with and will not ever call again. I just started my horse back on the bit and shes reared every ride (3 rides so far). So got my hand in there to find that half the tooth is still in!!!!!!!! I'm Furious! The tooth is broken off even with the gumline but has sharp and pointy edges. Called the vet and she said to ride her a few more times to make sure she's not just fresh-being the arab that she is- and if I keep having problems she'll come out at no charge and fix it but she was 100% sure she got it out-root and all. My worry now is - Should I let her back in there? My Coach said he trusts her with all his horses and she always does a good job..I understand-shes only human..mistakes happen...SInce I have no other option as we have no equine dentists and only one other vet in the area Im at a loss of what to do!

In my experience, it is unusual for large wolf teeth to cause the horse any problems, the vets leave well alone. It's the little wolf teeth that make bitting very uncomfortable for the horse.

My little man had his two wolf teeth removed today they were both wobbly and causing him pain, my big lad still has his so EDT had no reason to remove them
