princes face has gotten really bad with the swellings on his glands after turnout recently to the point that i dont ride him because he cant work in a outline, and when u do dressage thats abit of an issue, some one suggested antihistemines crushed into his food, has anyone used this or uses anything else for grass glands and will it cause any harm to him??

Ask your vet - I think it's many of the same active ingredients in animal and human medication but dosage and accesibilty (ie can the horses system process the medcine in the same way) can be an issue. My friends dog is on people heart medication - on advice from the vet she orders it from the states via the internet and gives him 1/4 tablet so the dosage is correct, costs a fraction of the price.

I have used Periacton for a head shaker but agree with above poster, you need vet advice on dosage, as the quantity to dose a horse effectively is high.

My pony reacted badly from fly bites e.t.c in the summer and spring, we just put 2 antihistimines in a carrot in his dinner every day.

We have been doig this for 3 years and hes 14.2 and he is fine.

I always remember my vet telling me that there was very little point in giving a horse human antihistamines, except for one particular brand, as they didnt work, but for the life of me i cant remember which brand or why they didnt work!!
