I have arthritis in my knee - extreme pain and very stiff, you might also get swelling but your best bet would be to go to your doc and maybe get a blood test to determine whether you're suffering from arthritis. Could be down to other stuff.
It starts off feeling like a sprain, sometimes a nagging throb in a joint, a simple blood test would tell you for sure,
please don't ignore it as it is a dibiltating illness, if you do have it omega 3
fish oil does help.
I have had it for years without it affecting my lifestyle much, I'm now in my
50's and it's having a huge impact, sometimes feel totally useless because
my hands refuse to work, I had a fire at work and couldn't use the extinguisher, I now can't work alone and my bosses are still looking for a solution, so please don't ignore it
I've had it for years in my knees. I have good days & bad days, the bad days aren't very nice. One of my knees is far worse than the other. I've had 2 operations on one & 1 on the other. I get aches in them & sometimes I can actually feel them grate as I flex them. If I put my finger on the knee cap I can actually feel the grating, I feel sometimes that there is little or no strength in the one knee & feel it will give way. It has on occasions & I've fallen over. On bad days I put a knee bandage on it, wether it actually supports or it just gives me more confidence I'm not sure. Cold & wet weather does effect it, I hate those days. the knee bandage does however warm up the joint.
I am always aware of my problem. I don't like getting down on my knees, it can be painful & I have difficulty getting back up. I worry about slipping & possibly wrenching my knee, I've done this before & it's so painful. Climbing of any description in a no no. I cannot get on a horse anymore & even if I could I couldn;t rise......it's a total bummer.
Please go and see your doctor, there are many things that can cause pain in your hands and fingers apart from arthritis, RSI and carpel tunnel syndrome to mention a couple, stop fretting and get a proper diagnosis, its probably nothing to worry about.
As others have said, docs will do a blood test. I'm afraid its more complicated than just arthritis through there are several types. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis its an auto immune disease, basically this means my body thinks the good cells are bad and attacks them. I was diagnosed (finally) when I was 7 with Juvenile idiopathic RA. Up until recently I have been in remmisson, however my last bloods show my RA factor and inflammation is back. I suffered lots with inflammation as a child but thankfully I don't remember too much pain, now is a different story, I am in pain everyday and have to be very careful about what I do, although I try and carry on as normal, I'm not and never will be.
Moral is if they catch it early enough there is lots that can be done these days, no cure but treatments can alleviate pain and stiffness.
Up until my hours went down at work I was able to afford my 4 lots of medication - once my wages were cut by 50% meds went out the window - a decision I severely regret now.
