I have a problem with my hip area nothing i do it very straight and when i ride its amplified. I am most comfy (on a horse) turned slightly to the right. If i really make an effort i can be straight but it makes me ache and is forced.
If i am galloping/fast canter I have trouble keeping my left stirrup and have to have it a hole shorter!
I know this must be bad for the horses i ride and am worried about one in particular being only a baby- I dont want to encourage his crookedness from the start!

The thing is i have no idea what or who i need to see- there are so many I've been recommended a Mc Timony, a chiropractor, Osteopath a sports therapist among a few others!
Slightly lost! I imagine my pelvis is out(?)
Who do i go for?

I use a chiropractor and it is brilliant however wouldn't say it helps with straightness. For that I would recommend something like yoga or pilates and some lessons from a ride with your mind (biomechanics) instructor. Has worked wonders for me as I have a similar problem from having had a bad back for years before discovering chiropractor!

Hi,

I have issues with my right hip as well, it locks into position when I'm riding (always had this problem but exacerbated by current saddle, getting it changed thank god!) and it is so painful I do very nearly cry.

I've been having chiropractic treatment for at least 6 years now, as I have neck/shoulder problems that stem from my hip issues too. It really does help, it's quite intense at the beginning, and at times painful - but it's a good pain, if that makes sense?

I used to go for acupuncture treatment also (found chiropractic treatment had a longer lasting effect so have stuck with that), and that really helped relieve the stress around the joint and across my shoulder muscles; part of the problem is that I know it's going to happen, so I don't sit correctly and place more pressure over my and shoulder to hold myself up.

When I had the time, I took up yoga, and the stretching and building up of muscles really really REALLY did me good - would thoroughly recommend. You don't have to be naturally super bendy - that's not what it's about, I'm as bendy as a steel girder....

If I'm honest I would have a chat with your doctor - he should be able to recommend you to an expert. Said expert will be able to decipher whether it is them you need to see or an expert of a different profession. It also depends on the person; I love being stretched and having all my joints cracked and ultrasound/deep heat treatment on my hip. Whereas I know people who have similar issues and much prefer being a dartboard with acupuncture treatment (which doesn't hurt honestly, it tingles nicely!).

It's nice to see that you're accounting for the effect your crooked position will have on your riding - I'm in the same position! Just after treatment, my position is 99.9% correct, and shows through in how correct Bruce rides.

Good luck :)

Where are you in country? I would recommend Kate Lockwood (osteopath) - she is based on Oxfordshire (Henley / Wallingford area). She treats horses as well and so is very good at looking at both you and the horse and seeing where the crookedness comes from - you may be making each other worse.

I have an eternally dodgy back, after an operation tho I am normally ok. Yesterday it flared up for the first time in months. Usually riding (the side to side movement) really helps my back, and I'm sure it keeps me out of serious trouble. I see a physio every month.

BUT today, I pulled the girth tight from up top, and as I was doing it there was a "riiiiiiiiiiip". That's it now, I'm back needing the full monty. Hubs rolling me over in bed, the works. I'm so ashamed :o

Anyways, our Back Man works on the horses and humans too, so I'm going to see him as an emergency. BUT when you're back is in crisis, there's very little they will do until the acute stage pases.
