We've been having real problems with hacking recently as we'd been attacked by a dog and it had made me very nervous about leaving the yard. Gerry was obviously sensing my nerves and was fine to hack around our own farm but had been refusing to leave the yard and throwing some rather spectacular vertical rears in protest.

Friend asked me to go hacking with her yesterday and I knew it was something that I wanted to conquer so I decided to go for it. Had a rather large portion of the emergency medicinal blackberry vodka that we keep in the tackroom for people who've had a shock :D and set off. Hey presto, no rearing, no napping, one nice relaxed horse.

As we went through the village we rode through a street party who pressed cups of homemade strawberry wine on us :D It would have been rude to say no so we joined the party and then continued on our hack.

While I'm not trying to be irresponsible and advocate riding drunk it certainly solved my hacking problem. G was incredibly relaxed and we had a lovely ride. The only problem came when we got back to the yard and I couldn't remember how to get off:eek::p:D

Homebrew for all who read this far :D

:D

We had a hungover/still drunk hack this morning after a yard party last night and the hack was never as chilled out! We didn't even make it quite as far as you though - I could barely get onto the bucket to get on Knobberts (nearly toppled it over first time) and YM nearly did an on-one-side-off-the-other spectacular when she over-compensated for her condition whilst getting on her hunter. Only thing that saved her was bouncing back on after hitting YO who was using the wall for support, groaning :D

LOL :D

How long did it take you to remember how to get off??

I might have to try this. Maybe Leo could have some too?

Gave it three goes and then sat there giggling.

Friend offered to push me off so I gave it a rather enthusiastic jump off all 17.2hh of Gerry and splatted rather undignfied onto the ground:eek:

whilst i certainly dont advocate drinking and riding ( just wanted to get that in before Im hung drawn and quartered) sometimes we need something to just chill us and yeah sometimes its unconventional . Ok drinking and riding doesnt mix normally but for you it did - Try (and I use that very loosely lol) to remember how relaxed your were. remember you did it no napping no nothing and had good time and next time dont even think about you are hacking out just go and enjoy -
well done and thats from someone who has lost confidence big time and started to see a glimmer with the help of a special daughter and a super little connerma Murph - I may just start riding my mare again before her sight goes completly :) enjoy hun xx

One of the best group hacks ever was a friends daughters 18th birthday fancy dress ride, which was a bit of a pub crawl  :D One of the funniest sights ever was the birthday girl in short skirt, fishnets and high heeled boots, crawling up the leg of her 17hh Irish draught marem having just landed flat on her back while trying to get back on! :D :D :D We were all so 'merry' all we could do was sit there and laugh. :D

Have had so many lessons in college when still drunk from the night before - I found that it was the easiest way to learn lateral work!
Also usually end up a bit merry at the end of a days hunting...

After just downing about 1/2bottle of wine (post horrible shift at work) your post as made me almost wee.

Brilliant.

Have to admit it was once after a pub visit me and a few friends were brave enough to race our ex races. Very good fun and the start of team chasing.

Fab! If you didn't want to be drunk all the time though ( ;) ) apparently Kalms are REALLY good :)

Thanks, not planning on doing it again. The silly thing is I'm not a nervous rider at all and G is a great hacker, we just needed to have a good hack to get the dog attack out of our system. Looking forward to plenty of long hacks now to make up for lost time :D
