I'm thinking of investing in some clippers or trimmers but am finding it a bit of a minefield as there are so many differing opinions on makes. I think I'll probably start with some trimmers first to get used to doing it before getting some guidance on clipping. However, and this may be a stupid question, but I've got some hair trimmers at home - could I use them on our horse just to trim her hogged mane and whiskers?

I actually tried my sons hair clippers on the pony as he's an absolute s**t to clip & the sedation had worn off before id finished. They worked pretty good on the bit I got done, as he had a spaz attack over those too!! Might not do the clippers any good though!! xx

As far as I know, yes!

But you might find they wear out quite quickly as they aren't designed for anything as 'heavy duty' as horse hair.

I have mens hair trimmers for tidying up my mares beard, cats hairs after a clip has grown out a bit and as a final tidy on trimmed feathers. They do def work hard and I wouldn't think they would last as long as something more heavy duty but I find the different grade clip on bits (no idea of their real name!!) absolutly invaluble to give a tidy finish without scalping my mare!! Mine are cordless too, they are babyliss and cost about £20, well worth their weight in gold imho!

A friend of mine bought a cheap pair of (human) clippers to hog her cob, they did a fantastic job! On the basis of her success I bought some to do my dog, complete failure they wouldn't cut at all. I don't know why they didn't work, maybe they were faulty.
