This is my first thread on the 'new look' forum - hope it works!

Annyway I was just pondering today why some human names are ok for horses - we all know a George or a Bob or a Katie - but others would sound stupid - random examples being John or Derek or Ruth. Why should this be the case? (you are all going to come on here in a minute and tell me you know loads of horses called John, Derek or Ruth aren't you!)

I've got a horse called John, which i think is a fab name and really suits him! Also i've got a Sam, Des, Harvey, Rosy, Edward and a Bob too.......

Three of my ponies are called Elspeth, Lulu and Jazmyn. Where I used to work we had a big chestnut horse called Clive and years ago I knew ponies called Tom, Sophie, Phillip and Phyliss.

I have a Lily and have had a Daisy so both names that could be given to a person.

OH likes the names Warren and Suzanne for a horse but thankfully Lil came with a name already. I'm not sure about having a horse called Suzanne!

I know quite a few, at one point had only two "non-human" names on yard

Kevin, george, lily, jessie, jack, roger, thomas, simon, harry, larry, perry, jerry, jerome, ella, paddy, patrick, sam, susie (aka Anastasia) charlie, boris, ricky

My horse is called katie and theres a jack, paddy, and my own name kerry... its fun when kerrys owner shouts kerry stop that, or night kerry cya tomoz.. i always look round and say night then.. or what did i do now.....lol One of the owners keeps calling me kate even though i have said my names kerry my horse is called katie i say kate if she being a bad girl...lol he still calls me kate..lol

I think most horses now have human names don't they?

And don't forget that humans are being given the strangest of names at the moment. For example I know friends' children called Etian, Baden, Destiny, Jayden, Alisha, Maddison, Riley, Dale, Blane...
I think the horses are better off tbh!

My human stable names are William, Katie, Alfie, Summer (human?), Heidi.

I had a Kylie before anyone had heard of Kylie Minogue cos it means Boomerang in Aborigine.

Also knew Warren, Winston, Geoff (love it), Gemma, Molly, Daisy, Susie, Archie

Best of all off topic, know a cat called Cillit Bang because owners said they would name it after next ad on TV!!!!

Oh not forgetting Billy and Junior

I had an Emily (and she was over 18hh!) and the ponies where I used to work were Becky, Bunty, Brenda, Ginny and Shannon :D

I own a Lisa (she is an extremely good SJer, just a dreadful name) and a Ted. I have also had a Stan.
