Humbug off to vets :-(

I feel like such an appalling mother. Humbug whilst on a high speed cat pursuit a few days ago collided with the corner of the table resulting in a high pitched squeal ( and an overly smug looking cat). I've been monitoring him and he was tender to touch above his "eyebrow". No tilted head, no change in behaviour, no change in eye size, nothing nasty from any extremity purely tender in that area. In my stupid I'm not a vet and should know better I decided he must have just bruised a sensitive area and just watched him. Finally decided yesterday all was ok - let him out this morning, his eyelid is swollen like a golfball and he has a weepy gooey eye and is hyper sensitive to touch, but still eating and no behaviour change. I'm so mad at myself, if I had thought for one second it was eye related he would have been at the vets in 30 seconds :-(.
 
I would have done exactly the same thing and suspect so would everyone else. If you had rung the vet yesterday they would have said just keep an eye on the situation.

Hope Humbug gets better soon and there is no lasting damage.
 
Aww, poor Humbug, hope he is better soon.

I would have done the same, waited to see if it got any worse, don't blame yourself, you are not a bad mother!
 
Just back from the vets, he Is on some liquid anti inflams to get the swelling down and back at the vets wed first thing. Vet can't rule out a fractured skull and I have to starve him so they can knock him out and x ray if necessary. I am so upset :-(

ETS- dont beat yourself up- I would have done the same
 
Aww poor boy and would imagine he has one hell of a headache, dogs are so stoic and this reminds me of the police dog hit by a brick in the recent riots.

Hope everything goes well on Wednesday.

Please don't think you've been anything less than a good, attentive owner. FWIW, I would have done just the same.

And I'm keeping everything crossed for Wednesday - I really hope you get good news.

Aw poor Humbug. I too would have done the same, no obvious wound and no symptoms would have meant I would have just monitored for a few days. Fingers crossed for Wednesday.
 
Thank you everyone, I still feel rubbish but I've spoken to people who saw him yesterday and they saw no signs either so hopefully at least I didn't miss anything glaringly obvious :-(. He seems fine in himself tonight - not been walked on vets advice and he is manic. Try telling a JRT pup he needs to be calm and quiet! He gets another dose of his pain killer and anti inflams tomo so will be interesting to see if the swelling decreases again - it's much better than this morning already.

That all sounds positive - at least he's behaving normally, for a JRT pup! lol:)
Nevertheless, I'm keeping everything crossed for you both tomorow. ;):)
 
Just back from the vets, she is pleased with the eye/forehead and he was more sociable with her touching it (broke my heart to hear my lovely friendly puppy growl and snarl on Monday). He is to stay in the mega medication and be checked again Tues (obviously straight back in if any swelling) but she is pleased. After Tues they will make a decision whether to refer to Newmarket or Cambridge but fingers crossed time will heal. Thank goodness for insurance - first dog I have ever insured!!
