Hi Humbug is a 14 week old JRT. He has always been treated as per vets instructions re flea (now on frontline) and wormers. (can't remember the name but looks like a brown chew and he loves being worked). Humbug is currently rather longer than he is tall and hence has some difficulty reaching his back end for a good groom. He has been at my parents for the weekend whilst I've been working and mum says he has been scratching alot, he did this when we first had him but had settled down. There are no nasties to be seen in his coat and it's his back he is scratching at (hard to reach spot).

I was wondering if it could be food related? He is on Royal Canin Junior Mini - would also value opinions on this food. I'm sure mum has also been given him untold treats whilst in her care! I know alot of people feed RAW on here but I barely have time to feed myself so it's packaged food for him I'm afraid :-(

Royal Canin is one of the top foods but I believe it contains gluten. If you want to try another food to see if that is what is causing the problem and don't want to go down the RAW diet which a lot of us believe is the best then I would suggest trying Symply which is gluten free and currently has the highest quantity of meat of all the dry complete dog foods I have found so far.

Here is a link to the page they have specifically on dogs that are scratching:

I agree with Murphs_Mum that RAW can be just as quick. I switched from the Symply (which the cats still have) to RAW a few months ago and as long as you have plenty of freezer space then getting a complete one from somewhere like Natural Instinct is as easy as defrosting then dishing up!

I didn't switch because of any problem with Symply which I still think is great but because I thought the RAW would be even better.

Royal Canin a top food? Absolutely not, except in price. Try him on a hypoallergenic food: Pets at Home have some good (and bad, so really look at ingredients closely) brands.

My lot are raw fed but ensure you source decent suppliers first or it can be tricky (they're in the raw sticky above). Saying that, with a jrt, you won't need loads. :)
