Hungry horse

To get back to the original post - I would stop feeding haylage and switch to hay and soak it so she can have more of it without the calories. If she is a good doer then I don't see the need for the chaff I'm afraid. I have a good doer and all she has had all winter is hay with the very occasional carrot

Does the horse get worked ?
Good doers need to get moving this helps the wieght lose and means you can feed them more.
Being tired from work also makes them a bit more biddable to handle as well.
I agree with chopped straw being a great filler it made a great difference to my fatty you can also get it from halleys who mail it to you they also make bloks lots of different sorts but the Timothy hay ones and the chopped straw with Alfafa would be suitable for a good doer.
If you have the haylage bought and paid for I would soak it , I dieted my fattey by 200 kilos using haylage but I did get him moving.

Op- I'm presuming she's turned out with others so it might not be possible to put hay out in her field? Also assume there is little grass as that seems the case everywhere.
Would you be able to take a token feed to the field when you get her in? Perhaps once you have her the other side of the gate give her the feed to take the edge off then maybe she will be a little less eager to get back to the yard?
Is there grass on the way up? Maybe she could also do a bit of hand grazing along the way? She may begin to learn its not such a rush!
On the good side spring IS coming so soon she will be less starving ;)
