Quick question relating to sartorial elegance on the hunting field. I am looking to replace my hunt coat and have got my eye on a navy one. Does it matter hugely if my velvet cap is black?? Also am I okay with a white stock or should it be cream with navy.

Thanks

I believe its correct to wear a cream stock with a navy coat but have seen some wearing white stocks looking very smart. Wouldn't think it would matter at all if you have a black hat.

I have a black coat with a navy hunt cap - I long for a navy coat too but my black one refuses to wear out! My cap is quite dark - like a French navy so looks ok with it

I have a white stock for my black coat, but would wear a cream stock with a navy coat

It's absolutely fine to wear a white stock with a navy coat. Also no probs with Black Hat and Navy coat. As long as you are clean and well turned out I don't see the problem!

I never knew about wearing a cream stock with a navy coat and cream is hard to find unless it's a silk one and I was told that you should wear a silk stock if the meet is a lawn meet.

I have always worn cream with navy - I got a lovely cream stock from IV horse - dirt cheap, but looks lovely.

Weeellll - to be absolutely correct it should be navy hat with navy coat, and black hat with black coat, and cream stock with black or navy. And light coloured gloves. Tie with tweed coat for autumn hunting prior to 1st October, coloured stock with tweed coat from 1st October to Opening Meet.

Nowadays however not many hunts are so anal that they would be too worried about sartorial errors (they should imo be glad to see people out :)).

As it happens, I wear a black coat and blue hat, but my hunt collar is blue so it kind of ties in with that :D

That's a shame, the navy ones are harder to find. But keep looking, I spent about a year looking before the perfect one came up on ebay!!!
