Hunts wil open their gates to newcomers in October for "Hunting Newcomers Week" (10-17th October)

Newcomers to hunting will get a taste of hunting, entirely free of charge, when hunts nationwide will open their doors to those with an interest in finding out more.

Packs of all descriptions are giving people the opportunity to try exempt hunting, to learn more about the way hunts work and the role they play in the British countryside.

Hunting Newcomers’ week has been very well supported countrywide by hunts, with packs in all areas taking part. Hunts will give both people who ride — and those who don’t — the opportunity to hunt and see what it’s all about.

For further information on hunting week (hunts or participants) please visit the Newcomers Week pages on the CA website http://www.countryside-alliance.org.uk/hunting-campaigns/hunting-events/try-hunting-for-free!/

Happy Hunting!

i have been in touch to be told that letters were sent to all joint masters and masters, surely a secretary is worthy of such information? we've not seen our master for a while due to holidays and other commitments.

The MFHA communicates with Masters - it's up to the Masters to pass information on. While it sounds reasonable that Secretaries be told, it might also be argued that Chairman should be told etc. etc. The cost of the EXTRA couple of thousand letters very quickly adds up.

Hunt Masters HAVE been notified (although this is a suggestion that hunts take up or not.) CA/MFHA are funding advertising for the first 40 hunts to take the suggestion up. It's a good initiative, I think, and may well lead to new subscribers/visitors (if you want them!)

Obviously anyone wanting to participate in one of these days should contact the relevent hunt Secretary to find out when/where etc.

i am fully aware of the costing implications of postage. i can see on one hand the advantage of this plan but really and truly, wouldn't it be a better idea to leave the hunting be for this season, to let it quietly trundle on, as we have an election next year when hopefully the country will come to it's senses and we can get back to proper hunting?(hopefully!!) numbers of followers has increased greatly since the ban, so why introduce uninitiated newbies to "exempt" hunting when the hunting proper could be resumed? or am i talking rubbish??!!

The future of hunting will not be ensured by repeal alone. Whenever repeal comes, and it seems increasingly imminent, hunting must continue to sell itself to new markets and encourage the next generation of support for hunts.

Estimates from last season suggest that there has been an 11% rise in support for hunts since the Act came into place. Hunting Week is designed to encourage further support, meaning hunts will remain an accessible community activity available to all for years to come.

Is your hunt taking part? We hope to get as much support as possible.

Because "newbies" can make up there own minds!
I am a "uninitiated newbie" this season. Have been out 3 times now autumn hunting, have been made very welcome by my local hunt and will be continuing come what may.

As a newbie i unfortunately find your attitude salimali quite ridiculous, surely more support the better.
Your attitude comes across as hunting being a "closed club" and that is the impression that many people have of hunting already and something that i think the current government like to use to their advantage to the masses.

The hunt i have been out with this season are very encouraging no matter who you are. And they are educating me not only in the current "exempt" hunting but also on the pros of banning the ban!

I think "Hunt for Free" is a very positive initiative!

thank you for your words of wisdom, my intentions were not meant to sound rediculous and i do NOT regard hunting as a close club , of course more support the better but i do not think that it should be for free as all hunts need to keep raising money, and i think for this next season we still need to tread carefully, instead of going in "gungho!" with each and everyone tallyhoing. my opinion only, but having a reg. pack here and being involved i think i know what i'm talking about.

The scheme isnt saying it should be free at all times, infact surely by encouraging others the result could only increase subscription and day tickets - raising money??

How are the likes of us newbie going to make a informed choices without the oppurtunity to see the hunts in action and understand the practice.

I was previously on the fence regarding hunting however the more i learn the more my thoughts are changing towards ban the ban.

I am obviously very lucky that my local hunt is so encouraging and inclusive of new comers who will hopefully go on to support hunting for many years to come!
