The loss of the cat is sad and it could have been dealt with in a more sympathetic way by the hunt. Sometimes hunts and thier staff do themselves no favours in the eyes of the public.

I would say on the issue of control that it could have been split second accident and these will happen. There are not many who could call thier dogs off a rabbit if it appeared 2 yards in front of them and thier dog clocked it, especially if they are a terrier or hunting breed. The huntsman has an amazing relationship with his hounds which is built on finely balanced trust and as with any natural thing can never be 100%. This is why the legislaton requires intent before a prosecution can succed thats it you can do anything within the bounds of the dreadfully drafted legislation. This is why there will be no action over the cat, which is completely correct in my view.

People can be overly sensitive about animals without thinking things through be those vegetarians who drink milk or eat dairy products, how do they square that with the killing of male diary calves or the propsed badger cull or in this case with hunting.

Everyone is entitled to thier opinion and to express it on this forum, it is the illogical and rash statements which usually get peoples goat and that is on both sides of the debate.

I'm guessing you're talking about the thread re the cat being killed? I haven't read it, but saw the title and thought it might be an upsetting/unpleasant thread so left it alone

I've always been in the "anti" camp, but I don't engage in arguements about it and respect others' points of view. I don't have a go at friends who choose to hunt.

My point is, being a horse rider doesn't mean you're in favour of hunting. Nor does being anti-hunt mean you're a trouble maker. :)

I love hunting, you get to ride across countryside you normally wouldn't have access too :) We ride mainly on farmland that we have permission to do so and we respect the land by riding round the perimeter.

We live in a rural small community and most residences know when The Hunt is on (usually 3 times a week in season) so they can make sure their cats, dogs or horses are in and are supportive.

The hounds are brilliant, so well behaved. Now and again we might lose one or two but the pack always come together again before going home.

The Hunt have been excellent at coming out quickly if you have a carcass that needs disposing of as law says you can't bury livestock on your own land.

Huntsman/women are not all 'hoity toity' just ordinary folk that wants to enjoy
a days hunting (drag) or sometimes a fox maybe 'flushed' out then shot humanly.

This i have no problem with, sounds like a well run pack
