hi all,

i have a show at the weekend and im entering the following classes:

Senior Equitation
Clear round Show jumping
Ridden Hunter
Novice Working Hunter

now i am going to turn him out as a hunter for the appropriate classes, but im wondering for the senior equitation should i just keep it simple and keep everything hunter turned out or shall i put my sprakley browband on him for the 1st two classes?

heres a pick of the little mosnter

thanks

You don't need to put bling on for equitation, its about you, and how you ride. As long as you are plaitted and smart there are no real "rules" for equitation dress, certainly at local level..

ok cool thats easier than swapping browbands!

thanks :)

whats ussualy asked of in senior equitation the classes i have watched its varied but mainly rein back, which we struggle with we can get four steps back.... and i have seen people do no stirrups which im fine with and i have also seen walk to canter?

any help appreciated!

In equitation some judges ask for certain things, others ask for your own show, in which case do things which show off your riding - if you are good at sitting trot show some, if you are good at acute transitions show some etc. Make sure you use the arena and ask for transitions in sensible places etc. Show walk trot and canter (extend in trot if you feel you do it well) do a figure of eight showing changes of bend etc. Good square halt and salute in front of the judge to end (with a smile).

Halt to trot, walk to canter...

Never heard of jumping in equitation, unless it was an equitation jumping class?

ps. Also when riding as a group, remember distances and manners to other competitors.

thanks guys for all the replys appreciate it. makes it easier if i turn him out to hunter type them rather than mess about for the one class.

hes only 15'2 and i know hes nowhere near as big as other hunters etc, but i just want adivce on my flat work away from my instructor and friends to see what showing judges think hence the equitation and ridden hunter. also He hunts he jumps hes raced he lets kids ride him and my OH ride him and he never takes off hes a true gentlemen and i also have a superb gallop to show off! :D

i am alsp a;ways told in the workers classes hes a true gent very fitted to working hunter and a lovley stamp of a horse so why not try local level ridden hunter :D cant do any harm :D

Honey 08 - you are as surprised as I was, but I can assure you, we were asked to jump a couple of fences and this was not just at one show! I was horrified, as my mare had a distinct aversion to jumps when it suited her..which was most of the time! However, we did win one and were dropped down the order in the other - probably due to her refusal to go anywhere near the jump :-)

Being blunt, and not meant to be nasty in any way, I don't see he would suit a hunter class really.

I think a riding horse class would be more appropriate for his type. :)

Agree with moomin... We do this quite a lot recently don't we? Agree that is!

Yep riding horse, although no reason why you can't enter working hunter, I find they let all sorts of riff raff enter that:eek::D. Even ebony and I in our day:D

Echo the Riding Horse Class.

Also no reason you can't do a WH - I used to do loads with my cob (who hunts weekly so actually a true working hunter!!!) and always won or got highly placed. You just need a nice clear round and a mannerly show at local level, and hope the show hunters stay out of the class!

Also how about Riding Club horse - again all sizes and breeds enter and is judged on suitability rather than type. You will be asked to pop a couple of small jumps as well as a ridden show.

Equitation classes to me are 'Best Rider' classes for adults, so would never dare enter myself as couldn't face the humiliation!!!

Have fun x
