Hi everyone!

Now, I am doing some hunter trials next year....and I don't want to look like an idiot!
So, assuming that the dress code for the hunter trial is cross country colours (I know some require hunting dress):

What do I wear underneath my cross country sweatshirt? Do I wear a stock shirt and stock? if not, what do I wear? Don't want to look under or over dressed.

Thank you very much :) x

Most hunter trials are xc colours or hunting dress, the decision being up to the rider.

Back protectors are usually required, so that will have a bearing on your decision as to what you wear .

I normally wear a stock shirt and hunting tie, under a sweatshirt. Cream breeches, boots etc as normal

Yes, usually xc colours, with or without stock. I always wear a stock pin but I have found some unaffiliated events won't allow them.

Also make sure that you have a medical armband as it appears only BE do not require them anymore.

As long as you are smart then I wouldn't worry too much - hope you enjoy it :)

Thank you so much everyone, I have retrained my horse for 4 and a half years (since i was 10) and can't wait to get out and compete. You've made me so much more confident, so thank you :) xx

I got told a second hand story of a rider becoming attached to their horse's plait by their stock pin. Two morals to that- shoulders and pin out after SJ!
