Just wondering what people wear on their upper body (under BP) for hunter trials, it will most likely just be a one off so do not want to spend money on colours etc.
Also do we have to put boots on the horses, my boy isn't keen on boots and I find he gets distracted wearing them so only use them if absolutely necessary, even then he just has brushing boots on.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. ?

Re the boots you don't have to wear them. Most people prefer to because the fences and solid and if you look at the log above, if you clipped it, may break the skin in a way you wouldn't with a smooth pole but there's no rules.
Also no fixed peaks on riding hats.

Our RC specifies long sleeves and long hair tied up ie not long ponytail that could catch on a tree branch etc. And no fixed peaks as said above.

Embarrassing story - my first ever RC hunter trial circa 2005-ish I didn’t know what to wear and I thought- well they wear show jackets hunting - and wore a tweed jacket. I was very hot.

Nowadays I wear a cheap Lidl running top that is cool

Back in the day (pre back protectors) correct dress for a hunter trial was ratcatcher - so tweed hacking jacket, beige breeches, and crash hat or hunting cap.
Horses had to be plaited as there was a turnout prize
You got marks knocked off if you wore xc kit ie stripy rugby tops were the "look"

Ah well in hindsight then I was correctly turned out!
They do a turnout prize at our RC hunter trials but I opt out!

Yup, some places wouldn't let you start unless you wore a hacking jacket, and I remember having an argument with some tweed clad official in the early days of body protectors, because mine wouldn't fit under my jacket and apparently I couldn't wear it over the top because it looked simply awful
