Hunter trials

*bump*

I would love to hear whats involved with doing a hunter trial too.....not done one before and hope to do one next year when my horse is fit.

Just wanted to know what it is like there and the layout is really and what i need to wear, thinking it will probably be xc clothes.
It says on the schedule that it is more for fun and to raise money.

hunter trials tend to be a flatter, simpler version of XC but that can be a generalisation. it seems to be what they call XC when its not done with dressage and SJ. you rarely hear of cross country by itself, its normally hunter trials so can be at varied levels. eventer trials is a few SJ fences straight into a few XC fences. yes to the XC clothes. if its just for fun then it will be low key and nothing to worry about, just chuck on your XC gear, practice some fences and have fun :D good luck!

I would love to know what westmill is like too.

As for ht in general xc clothes should be fine (a few will make you wear hacking jackets but this is rare now) and obviously a bp is essential. If it's under pc rules you need a hat without a peak if the class is over 80cms.
You will normally get a gate in a hunter trial. Expect water, ditches etc.
Some will have a timed section and some will be timed over the whole couse. Then it's either fatest time with least jumping penalties first or closest to the bogey time (this will be displayed) with least jumping penalties first.
Your horse will need to be fairly fit, I know some are really hilly.
