Hunter wellies- ARRGH!

About 14 months ago I bought some pink hunter wellies as they were expensive and a good name I thought they would last me ages so Indians mind paying the price. But no! They're now White, have a split in them, and worn down about 1cm!!
I'm so annoyed I payed that much for a reliable firm boot that has let me down :mad: ARRRGH!!
 
You did well if you brought them that long ago ! last pair I had lasted me 3 months - not a happy bunny at all and will never buy them again - the pair i had before that had lasted me nearly 20 years and i am so angry that I threw them away and they were still waterproof.... just because I brought the new pair as a treat !
 
Hunter wellies are definately NOT what they used to be! Years ago, a pair would last me 2/3 winters but now, I'm lucking if they last 3 months!!! Have totally given up on them cos I aint paying a fortune for something that isn't gonna last! Have now got a pair of Greta Muck Boots. They are more expensive (around £60-£70ish), but definately money well spent, very comfy, warm and not a mark on them or split after nearly 6 months :D
 
A couple of years ago I was given 2 pairs for my birthday, one pair lasted 6 months and I continued to wear the other pair for a year until the leaking became really bad. Won't touch them now and much prefer my muck boots, lovely and warm even though the calf size is far too big :)
 
The new ones are rubbish, my pink ones lasted about 4 months before the soles were through and they were leaking, I will never buy another pair. I got the Tyne muck boots, had them 2 winters and they are brilliant. One has just started leaking but it is through a hole on the top where I caught it on a sharp piece of metal within a couple of weeks of getting them, it has taken til yesterday for water to get in. Ive got some resin to fill the hole with and hopefully they will get through next winter too!
 
They used to be made in Dumfries, Scotland. Then hunter, in their wisdom, closed down the factory, sacked everyone there, some of which who have worked for them for 20 years and moved manafacturing abroad to make cheap rubbish. They also put the price up.

My first pair of hunters were from the 2nd shop in dumfries and lasted years.
 
my hunter wellys are doing really well they are 2 and a half years old and apart from one of the side clips coming off when I caught it in something as good as new.

I wear them daily all winter as I muck out in them and during the wet in the summer. I got them cheap too. Guess I have a lucky pair :)
 
Yep they are not the best, also your feet freeze in winter!

I still think they are kind of nice though, not sure how wellies can be nice but would not have any other wellie.

Instead I've got some Toggi Canyon boots!! Love them! Not pink though - boooo! ;)
 
Surprised they lasted you 14 months tbh! The old ones lasted years when they were made in Scotland....now I won't touch them with a bargepole. Too much money for a pair of wellies that split in a couple of months. They have become a "festival" welly.
 
I'm just completed my second winter with mine. One has an 'air sqeak' on the sole where I trod on a Nail but hole doesn't go right though. The 'paint' on them has worn a bit on the inside but I used to ride in mine so that's probably why. Contact Hunter and ask for some replacements? Worst they can do is say no...
 
Get a pair of Lowther wellies, 18 quid and outlast the Hunters by a long way!! They are actually made by Hunter as their economy welly, but mine are still going strong from October and my last pair of Hunters lasted me less than 3 months.
 
I got my first pair last month, but no way was i paying £60-£70 for a pair of wellies! So I got the 'Young' Hunter ones (Kids ones) they do up to a size 5 and are just a little bit shorter in the leg and cost £28 :D
 
My OH and I bought two different pairs in November - he will not wear his anymore as they are either leaking or are making his feet sweat (in December?!).

I'm not impressed by mine either - the only reason I bought a pair was because the pair I had 7 years ago they were fab. Certainly wont be buying another pair again!

You're lucky. exactly one year and one month we got out of our muckboots and they split down the side by the toes on the seam where it gets a bit thicker. Both pairs did it so it's not a one off. Useless boots and will think twice about them at 75 a pair.
 
Hi I hope this helps but I was warned not to buy Hunters Wellies and instead I went for Aigle Parcours, which in Ireland cost me €100. They are the best wellingtons I have ever had and are so comfortable. Mine are 3 years old and are like new. :)
 
Quality has definitely gone down the pan , i use muck boots now which are fab..

My OH bought me a lovely red pair of hunters for xmas a few years ago , and within a week puppy Erin ( dark lab on sig ) made them into peep toes - whoops! :eek:
 
Have to say I love my Hunter wellies. My last pair gave up at Christmas and I had them 5 years. My OH bought me new ones as a Xmas present and so far so good! Both pairs are pink.
 
I used to love my hunters but wont buy them now, even my mum's stopped buying them. They just split so quickly. I was tempted to buy some more for the summer rain :rolleyes: but no way i'm spending £70 on them
 
The Hunter Original Boot is only a copy of the Hunter Wellington (Original) boots that were made in Scotland. Starting with the Sole which was never the best part of the original Hunter Boot Heel now Hollow hence water getting in and heel squelch syndrome Tread depth less on new style Boots and I think a softer compound the SM original boots had a base layer in the upper boot which joins the sole this is no longer present hence soles splitting through and boots leaking the protective rand around the foot of the boot has been reduced in width compared to the upper compound rubber is softer and not as denser rubber as the SM Original boots, also the the boots are no longer Gum Dipped. I have sent several pairs back for squelchy heels and wrote the Hunter Boot Company a Long Letter and they Sent me a replacement FREE Pair of the Hunter Balmoral Bamboo Carbons Still Going Strong after 2 Years Every one needs to get on to HUNTER to Improve the product they were once a premium class wellie that you paid the extra for now only the PRICE is Premium and the Hunter Original Boot is only a LIGHT USE LEISURE BOOT no longer suited for any work what so ever.
 
I have worn hunters for many years but wont be buying any more, the last 2 pairs have split round the ankle and the sole has worn out very quickly, I begrudgingly forked out just over £100 for a pair of aigle as desperate at the time and they were the only ones that fit me ,Im pleased with them so far ,very comfortable and warm .
 
I'm another unhappy Hunter customer; I now just buy cheap wellies which just about make it through a winter (which is more than my Hunters did). Interesting to hear about the difference from the original Hunters, didn't know that! :)

This! Except i converted to the muck boot co. Lasts years and soo much warmer and comfier, only £50!
 
im so glad its not just me that has an issue with hunter!!

i had my orignal pair of hunters in school, and wore them to death eventually aged over 10 years... in hindsight i wish i'd kept them, as the only problem was there was no tread left and i would skite around in them a bit...!

my boyfriend bought me new ones three years ago, and they were leaky so i got them replaced. within a few weeks the insole had rolled over at the heel so i couldn't walk my length in them without having sore feet. they went in the bin.

went back to my old 10+ year old ones until i got the new neoprene ones... roll on a few months and they are knackered. big holes in the neoprene lining.

i swore by them in the past- but now they are mass produced rubbish. :(

any suggestions on good wellies to replace??

the only hunter wellies that are any good anymore are the green ones but i would rather have my £18 ones that have lasted me a year so far :) they were really good through the winter too :)
 
Nah, Hunters really aren't all that. I also find the soles are very slippery in winter. A nightmare trying to get up the lorry ramp wearing them. Well, impossible actually :rolleyes:

I love my Ariats these days :)
 
Sorry if this has already been said but haven't read the whole thread due to time. Hunters used to be a great British make, went bust and got bought out. The quality now is vastly inferior. A real shame as they took a great company with a reputation for quality products and ruined it.
