I am having the same problem with cheap wellies (although hunters aren't cheap they are made of cheap rubbish plasticy stuff these days grrr) so I am thinking about splashing out for le chameau.
I tried on the leather lined le chameau today OMG they are amazing but 325 quid :-O so think I am going to keep my eye on eBay for the neoprene ones. You cab get them for about 120. My cheap(ish) wellies have lasted about 2 months, at 20 quid a pair inc postage that's 120 pounds a year..... Yes this is how I am justifying my purchase of expensive wellies to those who look over my shoulder scornfully ;-) I also spend time doing ecological surveys in soggy fenland so its not JUST horsey purposes!
The key is natural rubber, most wellies are not made of it, the expensive ones are. There is a brand called gumleaf that are similar at I think 70 pounds.
I think my calves are 17inch and le chameau fit
