Hunter Wellies

I am having the same problem with cheap wellies (although hunters aren't cheap they are made of cheap rubbish plasticy stuff these days grrr) so I am thinking about splashing out for le chameau.

I tried on the leather lined le chameau today OMG they are amazing but 325 quid :-O so think I am going to keep my eye on eBay for the neoprene ones. You cab get them for about 120. My cheap(ish) wellies have lasted about 2 months, at 20 quid a pair inc postage that's 120 pounds a year..... Yes this is how I am justifying my purchase of expensive wellies to those who look over my shoulder scornfully ;-) I also spend time doing ecological surveys in soggy fenland so its not JUST horsey purposes!

The key is natural rubber, most wellies are not made of it, the expensive ones are. There is a brand called gumleaf that are similar at I think 70 pounds.

I think my calves are 17inch and le chameau fit :-)

Well I persevered with my hunters, but they only lasted about a year, spent a bit more last year and bought ariat Grasmeres.... Best thing I ever did, comfy, look fab and soooo warm in the cold weather, plus great for riding in! If you can find them on offer somewhere I can't recommend them enough, got mine for £139 (last seasons style)

Hmm looking at the ariat ones now Hippona, I like the riding sole as I've always had ones ok for riding in, I have lovely boots and chaps but can't bear to get them muddy and peeling off that stirrup bit from under the heel, eurgh! Do you find they come up especially wide?

I've had much the same experience with hunters as other posters - old ones = good, new ones = crap :(

However I got some more expensive hunter balmorals with HH subscription and they've just done their 3rd winter, and still like new.
Perhaps it's just the hunter originals that have gone rubbish?

I had some le Chameaus but they split after one winter :(

I have bought some 10 quids wellies from BandQ, so far so good, have had them 2 months so will see how long they last. They are not in heavy use, just going up and down the field and mucking out, but I never rince them.
Added some 5 quids wellies socks for some warmth too.
