First off all hi everyone im a newbie, i am always reading posts so though why not join! :)

Looking for some suggestions/experience from you all
I am considering forking out for some Hunter wellies as i've has numerous pairs of yard boots / wellies & all have disintergrated and dont seem to last too long.

I have heard mixed reviews on Hunters so am wondering what you all think before i fork out for them

I brought some hunters at christmas last year and they're still going strong! they are really comfy to wear however no grip at all in mud! found myself almost slipping over a few times!

I used to ride in them but the stirrup leathers would rub on the inside of the boots which cause the colour to rub off :( I still love them though! I use them for dog walking etc when its cold and they do keep your feet warm and defo more comfortable than yard boots :)
 
yes I remember them being good before they became a fashion accessory - maybe it is an impact of demand for quantity being produced now days than ten years ago!

thanks will have a look at some other brands!
 
I have had Hunters all my life and the most recent set leak- the fit is still nice but end up with damp feet :(

I spent the extra and bought Ariat Grassmeres 2 years in still waterproof and so comfortable, I've never had to wear extra socks in winter as they are so cosy and not too hot in summer- I bought mine in the sale for £170 and wouldn't hesitate having another pair
 
I love Muck Boots and have ankle high chunky ones with good grip (not all if them have good grip though)

Best long wellies in this house are milking wellies bought from an agricultural merchants, they look brand new after two years of daily use
 
wow £170 is alot but if theyre worth it and you get your wear out of them then they should be worth looking into to! I may have to speak nicely to the other half as theyre a birthday pressie! ;)

It is a lot but if you wear them everyday like I do (much out, ride, dog walk, pop to the shop, wear under skirt for lead rein showing, easy to run in for lead rein lumping - the inners are designed by nike for extra comfort ;)and I will be rocking in them tonight and tomorrow at a music festival!).

Mine are 2 years old now and still look good can see no reason they won't last another year at least.

Good luck with the pressie idea - i'm going non horsey for mine this year and trying for a pair of Louboutins :p
 
Used to buy wellies until they started falling apart after a few wearings. Now have some Aigle bought for £20 in the Scats sale about 2 years ago and they're still going strong. I wear woof long boots a lot of the time and love them too.

Grams meres are about £240ish, but I worked out if you wear them 6 days a week for 3 years they'll cost you about 70p a wear. Bargin! They are so comfy and warm.

Hunters are crap IMHO, mine lasted 3 months before they leaked. Not impressed.

haha this is exactly what i do, especially when i am trying to sell the idea of spending so much to my other half, break it down so it sounds so worth it!! :D

Agree with everyone else, don't waste your money.

I have worn hunters all my life and they used to last till I grew out of them, then they would be passed down to my younger sister. Never had them leak or become uncomfortable.

I bought some recently after a few years of not owning them, and they lasted about five minutes till they started leaking. It's such a shame as they are really comfortable. Just not the quality they used to be - much like most things these days!

The quality started its downhill plummet after the company was sold abroad. Better off spending the extra and getting a pair that isnt going to end with you having wet feet in a matter of weeks.

Or, actually, I had a pair of super cheap ugly green wellies from a DIY superstore and those things were indestructable.
 
I bought a pair of Ariat wellies last week which you apparently can ride in if you want. They are the same price as hunters approx and I'm hoping will last longer than hunters do.
 
They're rubbish!!! That's why I bit the bullet and bought Dubarrys! I've worn them to festival like events, this years washout at the Highland.... I half heartedly look after them and after a year they still look brilliant and are in fab condition. I love them.
 
I still love my hunters but wouldnt advise you ride in them, thats how they fall apart.
I would reccomend dublin river boots- Had a pair that lasted forever! and really warm in winter :)
 
I have had a few pairs - I love them - my only gripe though is that they only last on average one year - then they develop a leak and need to be binned.
I find them comfortable, but considering they cost about £70/pair, I would hope they would last a bit longer...
I would still buy another pair though, they are available in some great colours!
 
I have some hunter wellies - the ones with the neoprene lining. I have had them for 1 1/2 years now and they are just starting to go... The grip on these is great, on the normal ones there is no grip and you slip everywhere!!! My woof boots are the best!
 
Definitely avoid if you want a pair of wellies which will last! They used to be made in Scotland and were very good quality and would last 10/15 years - but because they were such good quality, people weren't buying them often enough so they weren't making enough profit. They sold the company and they're now being manufactured mainly in China but also in Brazil I believe, the quality is terrible and they're sold more as "fashion wellies" than ones that you can actually wear in the rain/mud.
It's such a shame as they used to be fantastic but the longest I've found the "new" pairs to last has been a month, and I don't trudge round deep muddy fields with them, only wear them round the stables/yard. Don't do it! :eek:

Le Chameau ones are supposed to be very good but I haven't tried them. I use Ariat mudbusters, did have an issue with mine cracking (apparently very rare) but with ariat customer service being so amazing I sent photos over and they replaced them free of charge the next day - incredible! I wouldn't hesitate to use ariat again as although they're not the cheapest, their products and customer service are second to none x
 
I had a pair of le chameau ones that lasted 7 years before they leaked........can't understand why I didn't get anymore. I did everything in them even rode!
 
I have had my pair of pink hunters for about 2 years now, probably more. I love them & haven't had any problems, nor has my sister. BUT my mum had a pair that didn't even last a year before they split. We use them for general yard duties but don't ride in them. Shame theyve gone so downhill, not sure I would buy another pair after these as they are so expensive & everyone seems to have problems. My mum replaced hers at burghley last year with a pair of rydales that cost £20 & are still going strong.
