Hunter Wellies

I had a pair which leaked after a week, took them back and swapped them for Tayberrys, same problem. Took them back and was offered a pair which had split whilst on the shelf, so said I would wait until the had new stock in case it was a faulty batch (shop lady was very embarrassed). Ended up buying a £15 pair in Wilkinsons as a temporary measure and they're still going strong after two years. Ride, muck out, walk and virtually live in the bloomin things so don't feel I can justify a more expensive pair until they wear out. At this rate they'll still be going strong in 2020 and I'll still be looking longingly at the £80 pairs in nice colours...

I've had nothing but dry comfy feet with mine, but then I splashed out on the balmoral's and they are defo sturdier than the regular hunters :)

I have a pair of the Balmoral Hunter Wellies and they are fab. I have worn them non stop since Feb this year and they are still going strong. Tread is great, they are warm, comfy and I would deffo buy another pair but they did cost £110!
They are worn at the yard, dog walks...everywhere!

3 Years ago I kicked off with Hunter about the quality of their NEW Original Boots And They Sent me a FreePair of BALMORAL BamBoo Carbon Boots and they have been Brilliant and I think the Quality of the Original Boot is now improving again from what I Hear, but the soles on the Original Boots wer always the achilles Heal of the boot no pun intended:rolleyes:

not a big fan of my balmorals. They have red lining, which in wet weather or if you get hot legs (inevitable in hot weather) they stain any jods!! Have ruined at least three pairs of jodphurs with these :(

The best wellies without a doubt are le chameau neoprene lined http://www.le-chameau-clothing.co.uk/wa/1/63/1896-Vierzonord-Neoprene-Lined.html
They are very expensive, but I got mine on ebay for 50 squids. Warm in winter, cool in summer, soooo comfortable you can wear them all day. They come up big so go for a half or full size down, you don't need thick socks with them either. They are slim to the leg too and go right up to the knee so are perfect. Hunters are cold and uncomfortable - I hated mine.

Just to add to above I have had mine for years and they are as good as new, no signs of wearing out at all x In fact when I did buy them they were £125 new so I must have had them ages!!

Re Hunter wellington boots.
Don't waste your money on Hunter boots.
I bought my daughter a pair of Hunters in 2011, they've not had a hard life to date and have split in several places about six months ago. Ok they are 3 year old but it is not good
that they have done this so soon.
I bought an expensive pair of neoprene boots at around £130 at Badminton Horse Trials last year thinking that they were good quality and would last but I am very
disappointed with them as they also have split on both boots along the front ridge patterns. I called customer relations at Hunter and did not have a good response, very defensive,
unhelpful and had to produce a long list of items before they would even look at my complaint. Friends came last night who are farmers and they all said not
to buy Hunters as they are now very poor quality; they buy Le Chameau, Aigle and Grubs which is what I will now try. I certainly won't go back to Hunter, having looked at their website it looks like they now concentrate on highly coloured trendy but cheaply made boots made in China which is fine for townies but no good for farmer's and equestrian people, they need reliable hard wearing boots to keep them warm and dry.
In summary, Hunter boots are not fit for purpose.
Good luck.

First off all hi everyone im a newbie, i am always reading posts so though why not join! :)

Looking for some suggestions/experience from you all
I am considering forking out for some Hunter wellies as i've has numerous pairs of yard boots / wellies & all have disintergrated and dont seem to last too long.

WOW what a old thread |o|
If you brought your first pair in 2011 you done well even if it was little use, I was lucky to get a few months out of them. Useless things

Cold in the winter, hot in the summer, caught me at the back of the achilles where they fold (painful) and did not last. Avoid. Muck boots are the opposite on every count.

Good old dunlops with a fleece insole - my current pair are on their second winter and no signs of giving up.

I am very hard on my wellies, and have tried most brands, and none have lasted beyond 6 mnths, bar the above.

Mine are still going after 3 yrs. They aren't pristine but function perfectly well and have had a lot of use.

However, never have I thought 'I'll stick my hunters on, they'll keep my feet warm'. Ever.

When they are done I will probably try a different brand that will keep my feet more toasty but that would be the only reason.

Since they (Hunter)started manufacturing them abroad they have become extremely poor quality, and I would not recommend them. Personally I buy a cheap make from my local Agri store and they last years, and are very well worn.

Agree Hunter wellies are not fit for purpose anymore, wouldn't want them if given as a present. I've had Toggie for the past 2 years and the leather has lasted through thick mud and constant wear every day and I still only wear cotton socks through the winter and my feet never get frozen. Love them:)

Another vote for ariat grassmeres instead, kept me warm and dry and more importantly on my feet in all the mud heavily pregnant and they're on year 2 or 3 and still clean up great

I love my muck boots so warm and comfy and they don't rot never buy hunters anymore as poor quality, cold and wet feet within 3 maths of owning them !!!!

Whilst l agree with alot of people about Hunters not being as good as they used to be but my old pair gave up just before xmas after 4 years & l was given a new pair at xmas as a present. I may have considered another make but my hunters have served me well so not going to grumble. My OH has dunlops & he loves them, but if l didn't have wellies l'd choose the country boots over mucker boots as l don't find them as comfy as country boots.

My sister and I each had a pair of cheap (£10) wellies from B & Q - they lasted eight years and only had to get new ones when the heels wore down completely and water came in through the bottom. They were amazing!

New wellies were Hunters and have had several pairs now. None has lasted more than a year. They're rubbish.

As with everyone else, I loved my hunters growing up getting 4+ good years out of a pair before I literally wore through the soles covering so many miles in them hiking with dogs and working with horses, my current pair lasted 6months my feet are cold and damp they look shocking the soles have almost worn through and there useless, my mum bought me a cheap pair of sinsburys daisy willies my feet are warm dry and comfortbale lol they were only meant to see me through till I decide which new willies I wanted but I think ill stick with my £14 pound ones!

You just have to love auto correct :)

I agree with most that they are nowhere near what they used to be and don't last 5 minutes. Also your feet freeze in them even with 3 pairs of good socks!

Gave up on mine and invested in some Le Chameau wellies, yes they are pricey but worth every single penny!!
