Hi

Does anybody think it is a bad idea to ride in Hunter Wellington Boots? Is it really a safety no no. Don't keep my horse at large yard so not many people to ask.

Thank you.

I ride in my Hunters - they are as snugly fitting as my riding boots and still leave plenty of space either side of my stirrup so I'm happy to do it. I wouldn't ride in big chunky green wellies as they are too wide and there's a chance of getting your foot stuck in the stirrup irons.

I have before. As long as your stirrups are big enough to safely accommodate the extra size of the wellies, they should be fine. Not particularly comfortable though!

I think its more to do with the treads on wellys causing a problem - more likely to hold on the stirrups (?? - that was always my guess for them being unsafe anyway!!)

TBH my hunters have so little grip on the sole that they have no more tread that my riding boots really. I have ridden in my hunters, but not something I do very often.

I rode in my Hunters for years with no problems. (That was years ago before there were so many 'alternative' riding boots available!)

I have, but I hate it!! I don't feel that I have as much feel on the horses side nor the same proprioception in my feet and lower leg - i.e. where exactly are they and what exactly am I doing with them.

Maybe if I was hacking out or tootling around I would be happier, but most of my riding is schooling either flat or jumping for other people now and I think I need to do it as good as I can.

if the weathers wet and im hacking, then i will ride in my hunters as the farm track that i have to walk down turns into a swamp, so then my feet are kept dry.
not as comfy or secure to ride in as riding boots, but fine for hacking imo
