does anyone think this is good.for horses? thought it would be beneficial for him and somwthing he'd enjoy but kinda got put off when.someone said it'd blow his brains!!

I have a three year old racehorse filly who needs to be "inspired" hunting is what she needs so if I can take her on hound excercise you can take your 5 year old! they love it so why not!

At 5 Absolutely.

4, I'd take Autumn hunting quietly and maybe a few times over the season for an hour.

3 years old....no I wouldn't. Other than going to meets.

Hunting can be the making of a five year old but you need to do it properly and enough.
Autumn hunting is the thing to do I take mine two or three times a week ,I don't take them hound exercising which is too much trotting on the roads which I like to restrict to a minimum with my five YO's
The other advantage of autumn hunting is that as its more standing around you can go out the way and calm down if you need to and go away for twenty minutes back again I never take one alone until I know how they cope with it I meet a friend on an experianced hunter or take my groom on one of ours.

It really depends on the horse as to whether it would blow his brains surely. Ive hunted a 4yr old & she was good as gold, we had people blasting past us & she never tried to take off, she was happy & chilled....my 23yr old on the otherhand was embarrassing to take, he was the worst behaved horse there!

hes a wee bit 'behind' due to being a bit weak as a 4 yo so not jumping or anything yet. generally a good boy though but like you said goldenstar i was worried about a lot of trotting on the roads...thing is hes not very forward going and ive never hunted ao wasnt sure it would help or not!!

Absolutely take him! If you don't try you will never know. Totally depends on the horse as to whether it will blow his brains or not, and now is the best time to try. Like Goldenstar said Autumn hunting is great for educating as there is a lot of standing around and if they do get worked up you can take them away to calm down before returning. You know your horse so just take it step by step and see how things go!
