the horse that is! youngster has no shoes on and i dont intend to shoe him, really wanted to take him cubbing but someone said no way, not unless i pit shoes on :-( he hacks out, wer building it up and so far no probs.

should i just write it off and not bother?

I don't see any reason that you can't hunt barefoot. Nic Barker manages it no problem, she'e got barefoot hunting miles for her horses on the Rockley Farm blog.

I'm planning to take my barefoot mare hunting. I'm more worried about the way she'll behave than her doing it with no shoes.

I don't see any reason why not - especially if you have been doing a lot with her and her feet are tough. Just avoid meets where there is a fair amount of road work and don't over do it and stay out for hours. Although that's not likely cubbing!

I used to hunt my pony that wasn't shod and didn't even think about it. So long as they are used to covering all sorts of terrain there shouldn't be any problem.

I've got the exact same dilemma. I'm planning on taking my barefoot cob out cubbing in 2weeks. He goes everywhere and anywhere barefoot whilst hacking BUT I can slow down, or let hi pick his way over very poor ground rather than worrying about to hae to keep up.

I contacted the hunt about joining them and mentioned it, amount other questions. They sent a lovely helpful reply but also said he would be fine as 'there's not much roadwork' :o Clearly someone who knows very little about barefoot horses. 10miles of road work wouldn't bother my horse at all but I don't really want to have to gallop him up rubble tracks!

We're going anyways barefoot and see how we get on!
