I know this should go in hunting but thought I would get a better response in here. Basicaslly the question is do you agree with hunting or are you totally against it? What are your reasons for this?

Totally random question that popped into my head whilst I was freezing my backside off out hunting yesterday.

Just wanted to know people's opinions, what ever they may be.

I learnt a lot out hunting and loved it. I always understood what was happening and it never worried me. Wierdly, when I first came to Norfolk and we began doing stuff like going to meets I was pretty anti (I was 9) but as I learnt more and more I became more and more for it.

I am pro hunting.I have been out a couple of times myself and would go more if cost wasn't so prohibitive with my local hunt.

I'm for but I don't hunt myself. One of mine is far too strong, excitable & bold for me to consider hunting & the other I just don't have any urge to take.

Absolutely for. Was very anti it in my youth (when that stance was unheard of). Now the antis have made me so irritated, I'm all for it. Could do with a hunt round here -and not just for foxes....

for!!! its the age old thing. dead or alive. they are vermin! if hunted they are one or the other. not festering in a humane????????????????????????????????????? trap!

Definately for...as a child our local hunt (the Beaufort) used to excite and fascinate me. My family moved in the 80's & it wasn't until many years later that I had a suitable horse to hunt that I started hunting with the Oakley & I love it!

Against. And this is what annoys me ^^ Can it not just be that people have different opinions? I am well aware of the facts and have done a lot of research having spent much of my life around people who are for it and not wanting to look a plank when discussing it, and I'm still against! I'm not against the population of foxes being controlled, I'm against it being made into a sport... but that is my choice. It does not mean I don't understand what it's for!

I'm 100% for hunting, i've always grown up with that understanding and it's never waverd.

Fox Hunting is an English tradition and should be carried out with respect to the countryside we all love.

For! For those that visit this forum that are against I assume they believe it's barbaric or cruelty to animals which is just a lack of understanding. Fair enough, maybe if they looked into the matter they would begin to understand the need for pest control and the horrid alternatives to hunting.

What really gets my goat is non-horsey people who thinking hunting is for the elite. So many people seem to making hunting a 'class' issue, like only the upper class can participate. I wish they would just follow the hunt one time and realise it's open to everyone and anyone!

I'm for, but understand the arguement against. My parents were city folk who moved to the country before I was born. They were against it but I went as a 9 year old child when I wanted to and my hunt had a PC day. I loved it, but due to my parents reservations have seroiusly researched and know alot of the pro/anti arguements. My mother is now a total convert and is a regular (i.e, completley devoted!) foot follower. My father still has reservations and chooses to cheer me allong when I go but to stay away at other times.

Basically, the way I see it, is that it is an individual and personal choice. But whatever the choice, you should not try and force your ideas on someone else. discuss and dabate, yes, but sometimes it's better to just accept that we can't change everyones mind. My personal view is that hunting is a fabulous tradition that serves a purpose and needs to be preserved. Yours may not be, but that's okay too. Just dont try and stop me doing what I love.

See, I am Pro, BUT it is comments like this that wind me up & (I think) give hunting a bad name.

Just because some people are anti hunting, doesn't mean they don't understand it. They just have a different view.

Don't know if you meant this comment to be tongue in cheek but it reads as arrogant & condescending, sorry.

First thing I did with T after I'd broken him was take him hunting and I don't think there's a better way to start a horse. Am currently liveried on a hunt master's yard and on the social committee, so I can safely say 100% in the pro camp

"The people against it are the people who don't understand what it's for"

Oh please. Straightforward question and everyone is entitled to an opinion. It would have been a better poll if it had said "hunting live animals - for or against" I've got nothing at all against drag hunting. But hunting live animals for the fun of seeing them run away and hopefully kill them later? No thanks. It's barbaric. I've asked this before and no-one has ever offered a valid and considered answer. Bear baiting, dog fighting, cock fighting has all been outlawed. Why is hunting live animals (deer, hares, foxes etc) any different? Otter hunting has only recently been stopped. Why not carry on with that? Would you pay to go and shoot lions or rhinos in Africa? If not, why not? Please, someone explain it to me. What I believe is that many people haven't thought through the ethical issues that inevitably have to apply to a far wider canvas. I fear that many, many, many people approve of hunting live animals on horseback because they like the thrill of the ride. Sad.

Otter hunting was stopped by the otter hound packs themselves. Indeed, it was those true countrymen who realised the otter population had crashed, and brought attention to it.

Firstly bearbating and cock fighting were made illegal because of the gambling, not animal welfare. You are entitled to your belief that hunting is wrong but equally I am entitled to my belief that it is not. I dont require you to go hunting ,so what gives you the right to inflict your beliefs on me .

I used to be anti but would probably now describe myself as pro. The ban swayed me as the one thing I hate more than anything is hypocrisy. I can't get my head round how many people that support banning hunting on animal welfare grounds, will still happily tuck into a battery farmed chicken or eat fois gras. Yes, I know this doesn't apply to many genuine antis (and I admire anyone who sticks to their principles) but it does to vast numbers of the voting public that actually made it happen.
