HI all,

In an effort to 'perk' my mare up, it has been suggested that I take her hunting...

Now, I'd quite like to do this, but..in over 25 years of riding I have never ever been to or on a hunt!

I understand there are things like children's meets and cubbing which are good for the first timer and have read a few other posts which recommend contacting your local hunt sec....but I have no idea which is our local hunt as there seem to loads in our area (Notts/Derby)...I've tried googling for websites and didn't really come up with anything useful..

Can anyone help?!

Try googling South Notts hunt, they do one day a week in Notts and one in Derbys so that might suit, or Cottismore maybe?

Also google the Grove and Rufford.

I used to hunt with both them and the South Notts, found them friendly and good to first timers.

I am possibly near you...I am Notts/Leics borders but only about 20mins from the outskirts of Derby - I tend to hunt with the Quorn.

Thanks CM will have a look at them too.

Got to say I'm really confused...looked at south notts..no info about children's meets etc...subscription stuff sounds really expensive :eek: and couldn't make head nor tail of the rest of it..caps etc. Says visitors have to be invited by someone...

:confused::confused:

i suggest you go to MFHA,then "find a pack", this is county by county, take your pick. there are phone numbers to help you.

South Notts Monday meets are lovely, no pressure to jump anything and everyone very friendly.

Thursday meets are more up in the Peak District and with more challenging landscapes a little faster and have some stone walls to jump.

Readyfield optional jumping days are also very good - they will have you jumping by the end of the day!
