Hello ThinLizzy. Today I went Autumn Trail Hunting (previously known as Cubbing) for the FIRST TIME ever. I had an absolutely fabulous time - three hours of glorious views, scenes and riding.

The people were all enormously friendly. I went with the Wheatland and I telephoned the day before to speak to the Master and 'introduce myself'. I was welcomed, looked after, and generally kindly told what to do and where to do it.

Now is the time for you to contact your local hunt to find out about Autumn Hunting - it's the best introduction to your hunt before the real hunting season begins. I'm determined to go as often as I can this month so that my mare learns as much as she can before the pace is upped.

ps. Today there was no jumping (not sure if this is the norm for Autumn Hunting?)

I have met a lady who hunts regularly and never jumps - she knows all the gates and back ways around the country. I have also spoken to people who went out for their first time and found themselves doing some jumping they didn't enjoy at all!

The best thing is to talk to your local hunt's secretary - they may be able to give you a bit of guidance.

good luck

JackyandRosie are right - contact your local hunt sec and find out when they recommend for visitors or new comers to join in (some days are faster/slower/more jumps than others.) there isn't usually much jumping autumn hunting.

glad you've decided to give it a go!
