hunting- i have NOTHING to wear..

ok so am going to try and autumn hunt this weekend - i have to wear white jods, blue show jacket, white shirt and white stock-apparently none of this will do!

i have a joules tweed coat that might suffice -but totally stuck for the rest!!

any ideas - cant afford to buy the lot -pony might hate it dumpme within 2 minutes and i could never go again!

I'd wear a shirt and tie, preferabley a check type shirt, borrow a boyfriends! The tweed jacket is good, the idea is to blend in with the hedges not stand out.
White jods fine for now and whatever boots, you'll be fine and enjoy.

It really doesn't matter what you wear - the important thing is to be tidy and smart. Make sure everything is clean. And if you have long hair for goodness sake put it in a hair net, and tied well up and away under your crash cap.

And if you enjoy it - then you can get kitted out in the correct gear.

Before I bought a new tweed (I lost my old one) I worse breeches, shirt, tie, dark V neck sweater and a clean and tidy riding coat/waterproof thing - no one batted an eyelid

sorry but could i hyjack your post please, my jods are light greeny khaki colour and i hate wearing long riding boots (my little toes go to sleep) so wear short boots and chaps .i supose this would be wrong for hunting? could buy new jods but dont want to wear long boots.

You will be fine with chaps and jod boots for autumn hunting and to OP your tweed jacket will be much more appropriate (coloured stock or tie with tweed)

Don't fuss too much about what you are wearing, as long as you are neatly turned out with your hat ribbons tucked up - just enjoy your day

If you are going out with Cambridge & Enfield Chase. they sent out an email about what to wear. I don't think they are that strict, judging by this extract:

With the exception of the show meets we have not enforced a strict dress code, and this does seem to have caused some confusion. The idea is still to look neat and tidy. Jackets should be done up, ties or stocks correctly tied (for your own safety), and ladies hair either worn in a hair net or if long tied back. Horses should also be clean, and if manes are unplaited, neatly pulled or hogged. (native breeds excepted).

I have seen people out in tweed and black jackets at most of their meets if that helps. Although white jods probably not a great idea!

The few times I went hunting I wore pretty much what you described and nobody questioned it! xD Never bought a tweed jacket as I HATE them and don't plan on hunting again anyway in the near future...

Autumn Hunting = a shirt and tie, a tweed coat and being generally tidy. NO WHITE BREECHES - ever - they are worn by Masters and Hunt Staff ONLY.
Opening Meet and thereafter = Hunting Coat and White Stock OR Coloured Stock and Tweed Coat. NEVER a White Stock with a Tweed Coat. Also, stock pins are pinned Horizontally - ONLY Masters and Hunt Staff wear their pins on the Vertical.
These days, it does not cost a lot to be turned out correctly. Charity Shops and ebay are within everyone's reach. I never thought I would own a Bernard Weatherill Coat - but I bought one on ebay a couple of season ago for peanuts. Ensure that hair is plaited, netted or whatever - but NO mermaids please! Boots, no matter what type (leather or rubber) - SPOTLESSLY CLEAN. Always make way for a Master, Huntsman, Whipper-In and Hounds.
