I have never been hunting but recently I feel I have been plucking up the courage to consider it! I have no idea if my horse has hunted before - I imagine he should be fairly sensible but I have not jumped him yet so would be looking to stay with non-jumpers for my first few times. Does anyone hunt with Cambridgeshire Hunt with Enfield Chace? I am in Cambridgeshire near Perry, Grafham area (not far from St Neots) so don't know if there are any other hunts? If anyone has hunted around Cambridgeshire I would love any information you can give me. Is there a lot of jumping to be done and are the fields quite short? I think I would have to befriend someone to go along with for my first time (such a chicken!!) :o

You have missed the newcomers meet for the Fitzwilliam, which runs all the way from Raunds right over to Peterborough, the newcomers meet is in Milton Park in Peterborough. A very friendly pack, they have a website so I would ring the secretary and see if their is anyone you can buddy up with. They used to do hireling in Great Gidding. Only been out with the Cambridge with PC, and the Fitzwilliam seemed more adventurous but they have more country.
Then there is the drag hounds, jumps or no jumps,https://www.facebook.com/groups/196224407250/?fref=ts
If you post on Horsepoo Cambridge you should be able to find someone to go with you

We went out with Oakley yesterday. They were really friendly. They do a great deal with a newcomers ticket. 3 days hunting £100. They hunt around Bedford area. I am taking my 3 year old out with Fitzwilliam on 21st December. Apparently easy country no jumping that day.meet up with me if you like although I can't be sure how my horse will cope with it as she hadn't been before

I go with the Oakley, kennels are at Melchbourne, Bedford always have a non jumping master as well as jumping, me and hubby going Saturday and will jump a few low jumps but nothing silly, they are really friendly but we do normally go on a Tuesday with smaller field.

Thanks everyone that's really helpful - Madali I don't think I'll be ready to go 21st December but wow you're brave taking a 3 year old! :)

What time do they meet on a Tues and Sat - is it morning and is it always the same place?
I may go on foot to go an have a look so I know what to expect. How do I find out where meets are? Do I need to become a member on their website?

When does hunting season finish? I haven't got any transport atm so will have to find a company to transport me but I am moving to a new yard (with actual other people who ride!!) in about 5 weeks so I can see if they want to share with me. I am considering selling my car to get something that will tow a trailer and do my trailer test but that wouldn't be until late next year!

Hunting season is Nov-March. Weather permitting. General meet time is 11am. Autumn hunting which is sept-nov is an early start. 6am, but you are finished by about 10. You would need to contact hunts as they need to keep things fairly" closed shop" due to the anti's.
Best time to take a horse is when they are young before they get worldly wise. My 8 year old has got worse behaved every season, so much so I didn't go out last year. Although she was good this week. It can be expensive, so if you have to pay for transport make sure you are both fit enough to get your money's worth. Good luck and hope to see you out

I went out a few seasons ago with the Cambridge University drag hounds. Fab day. The meet was at Tetworth Hall near Gamlingay. Friendly crowd considering I knew no one. It was a Sunday meet.

Really good at the moment

Nicely dried out decent cut in the ground for jumping

Very welcoming lot

The phone number is Aaron the whipper in, he would be very happy to discuss routes they will be taking

Thank you. Have been out with them before, can confirm to any one thinking of going they are very nice.

Only asking as mines not a fan of sticky going and friends older pony forgets her age and tweaked a muscle in the sticky going last time. So just picking our meets a little more carefully now.

I followed the Cambridgeshire with Enfield chase twice last season on foot and they were very friendly and welcoming.
Have you tried posting this in the hunting forum? You might get more specific replies.
