Hunting in mind- what bit recommendations for a hyper Thoroughbred?

Gag is still a gag even if its a Happy mouth. I have used that bit with success on a horse whose preferred jumping stance was to have his head on the floor as an evasion (fine schooling on the flat, all checks done etc etc).

Still think you should give the copper snaffle a go. My friend has just put her full TB (not ex racer) in it to go XC as he was tanking and it has been brilliant. Same for another friend with a rather large ISH mare who was taking charge. The common factor with both these horses is that they do have good mouths and school nicely, but when overly excited, tend to take charge. Thens when the copper snaffle worked for them.
 
Further research seems to indicate that the bit's name is a UK/USA thing. The bit was originally named after some british towns where it originated in its various types, Kimblewick, Cambridge and Uttoxeter. In the states they had issues with the spelling/pronunciation of these and came up with their own spellings. Hence this bit sometimes being known as a Uxeter Kimberwick in the USA.

Personally I can't imagine how you would say Uxeter....so I'll stick with Uttoxeter and give the Staffordshire town a little bit of recognition!
 
If you have a mare that broncos when others are infront i recomend you have a neck strap! because evryone just goes and i mean goes! i loved it i used like a happy mouth pelham with roundings! have fun
 
Being a racing person, I would suggest that you just try her with a grackle, flash or drop noseband with her regular bit. I am pretty old fashioned in that I like a horse to be uncomplicated in the mouth. As long as you can stop and stay on board you will be fine. I would be wary about trying any bits with curb chains. Just bridge your reins when you set off cantering and let her pull against herself. If you're with a friend then stay together or pal up with someone else in the field. I drop them out the back and do my own thing. The only thing you will probably find is that the standing around and at the meet might upset her but having a strong bit in her mouth for that will not make her quieten down! When you say bronco do you mean that she bucks?
