Hunting is in a spot of bother

Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team are gunning straight for the hunt directors when a Cheshire Forest Hunt hound got killed by a train when trespassing on a railway line on the same day as a hound was shot by the landowner when trespassing through a field of horses.

Go for the knobs in charge, not the plebs on the ground. The knobs have hitherto been very happy for the plebs to take the rap.

Cheshire Hunt directors (different pack) face a trial for a similar animal welfare offence for failing to take proper care of their hounds.

Knobs and Plebs? Really?? What Century are we living in?

To date the hunts have cheerfully sacrificed their lower ranks, the terrier men et al, when the Police are on them re illegal hunting. The police are now aiming higher up the pecking order to those who give the commands to the lower ranks.

this link refers to a Devon/Cornwall hunt and action police are taking. I had no idea that you could report trespass of hounds on your land to the police or that they would be in the slightest interested if you did so. I loved the bit that said "written permission from the landowner"

having had a very bad run in with our hunt last week end and nearly being ridden over when I was on foot and went to speak to the master. I shall have no hesitation in reporting the next time. I have never met such arrogant people who are prepared to use their horse as a weapon.

I did stop a vehicle to ask where the hunt where mistaking it for hunt followers. I was somewhat concerned when they put the window down and I was faced with black balaclavas. They did however remove them to speak to me and were about 1000% times more polite than the hunt.

I don't know which hunt their warning refers to, we seem to have so many problematical ones, but I would guess it is Torrington.

For people without Facebook, this is what Devon and Cornwall Police Rural Crime Team posted about the Community Protection Warning that they have issued to an as yet identified hunt. As it is ‘only’ a warning at this stage the force won’t name the hunt (they have been asked to but have declined).

LATEST NEWS | Warning notice issued to hunt group

Last week, Devon & Cornwall Police Rural Affairs Team issued a Community Protection Warning notice (CPW) to a hunt group within the force area, following allegations of anti-social behaviour and trespass.

A CPW a formal, written notice warning individuals about behaviour which is believed to be causing unreasonable and/or persistent disruption to the community.

The Hunt group received the warning on Thursday 15 January and must now adhere to a series of conditions set out in the notice, which include, but are not limited to:

• Notifying local police of trail hunting activity, hunt meets or training events in advance
• Keeping hounds under close control at all times and gaining written permission from the landowner before venturing onto privately-owned land.
• Refraining from blocking or causing disruption to highways

• The Hunt must not cause nuisance, annoyance, harm or distress (through words, or actions) to any member of the public or employees of Devon & Cornwall Police.

Failure to comply with these conditions could result in further action being taken, including a stricter Community Protection Notice or prosecution.

We hope that this sends a clear message to hunt groups that anti-social behaviour, trespassing on private land or any other illegal activity will not be tolerated.

There is no place for illegal hunting in Devon and Cornwall.

Anyone who has witnessed illegal hunting activity or anti-social behaviour (such as trespass, harassment or hounds out of control) is encouraged to report it to us by filling in a form on our website or by calling 101.

If an incident is happening now, always call 999.

We had hounds trespass our land, garden and stable yard last year causing distress to the horses, our dogs and cats. I phoned the police and a couple of hours later received a call from the local rural crime team. They were incredibly helpful, very thorough in listening to my complaint (of which I backed up with video). They checked back in with me on 3 separate occasions asking if I wanted to press charges, or whether I wanted them to make a visit to the hunt master to issue a warning. We didn’t take it further at the time as my husband decided to deal with the situation himself 🙈, however our case officer said she would record the event and if it happened again they will take action. I was very impressed with how supportive and active they were to my complaint.

Safe to say, after my husbands “discussions” with the huntmaster, we’ve had no trouble this year!

This is a example of why people get annoyed with hunts

Yep, because they’re either that arrogant to lay a trail along a public road, or there is no trail laid … what other reason can they give 🤷🏻‍♀️
