Hunting is in a spot of bother

Sorry Tiddlypom, all the terrier men I have known are 100 their own masters and do the job (well or badly) because they want to. Don’t do them down by suggesting they somehow browbeaten into it - maybe in the 19th century but not now.
Absolutely my experience too, and as the terrier work remains entirely legal in its own right, albeit separated now from any hunting activity, this is irrelevant.

If it had been Dave the builder and his staffe cross down the local council estate he would probably be in prison.
No, I don't think he would tbh. The CPS clearly don't think they will reach the bar for prosecution. That is the way the law works and is in the best interest of the tax payer; it isn't appropriate to use tax payers money and judicial time if ia case is unlikely to result in prosecution.

Nah! Forever complaints about dogs and lucky if the owner gets a slap on the wrist. Someone I used to know had a dog get out of the garden and cause a crash on the M40 (dog killed, humans ok, cars crunched) - police were obviously called but it was the car drivers insurance who forked out.

Definitely not the case where I live. There are loose dogs roaming around quite frequently, 4 of them have been in my horse field chasing and biting them, one of them bit ME when I grabbed it. The police do nothing at all. Two people have had toddlers loose on the road as well!! The police did attend but only because the Mother had gone out, she was given a bit of a talking to and refered to social services but no prosecution.

It was a good punt by the police to try and get the Cheshire Hounds directors found guilty of lack of care of their hounds after hounds were found yet again milling about apparently unattended on the road. That is far from uncommon whether antis be out or not, I have lost count of the number of times that I (as a random resident who tries to keep out of the way of the hunt) have found myself flagging traffic down because of loose unattended hounds charging about on the roads on a hunting day 🙄. I even once returned a lost hound puppy found on my property to a very pro hunting neighbour, it wasn’t hers and she was lovely, but the people who had been walking the puppy were furious with me, god knows why, I had no idea they were walking hunt puppies 🙄.

Why the police chose that particular incident in Cheshire on that particular day as being worth pursuing I don’t know. AFAIK no hounds were injured. I believe that antis were out.

There is arguably a stronger case coming up again in August against the Cheshire Forest Hunt directors. No antis out, I believe. TWO hounds killed on the same day, one shot by an irate landowner when hounds trespassed in amongst a field of horses, panicking them, and the other killed by a train when trespassing on a railway line.

Initially the hunt reported the landowner who shot their hound to the police, who questioned him then released him without charge. The police then came after the hunt instead. Karma.
