My boy recieved a nasty lateral cut on the inside of his near hind leg, jumping a gulley back in January. The wound was about 4 inches above his fetlock joint, to the rear of his cannon bone.
We had the vet out and cleaned the wound thoroughly, poulticed it for nearly 4 weeks until it started to heal, and he was on doses of anti-biotics and bute.
Once the would healed over, about 3 weeks ago, he was turned back out with view to bringing back to work, but went slightly lame again.
My vet thinks there may still be a grumbling infection in the wound so the poor lad is back on box rest and anti-biotics again. He has been given a 2 week course, but although 7 days into this course now, there is still a little heat and puffiness next to the wound. He appears sound but imagine that is down to the bute.
Is it normal for a cut like this to take so long to heal and shouldn't the antibiotics have kicked in by now? Has any one else experienced similiar injuries or had problems with wounds healing like this?
Greatful for any comments/advice.
