Hunting

Thats vile.. poor bugger was terrified- what did he do to deserve that?
Sometimes i truly hate people for what they do to animals.

I know - my heart sank. Truly sank.

There's a hunt that goes on this time year near my yard on a deer park. Each year they need to cull do the volumes of deer - its done in a humane way. The hounds then go after the scent. I think this is better.

That's not hunting. It is just barbaric.

The end part where they were trying to catch the deer actually made me feel sick!

That poor creature must be absolutely terrified let alone being exhausted from having to run so far

Don't get me wrong, I am not pro or anti hunting and fully accept that everyone has their own views on it but this to me is inhumane and cruel

Since I have had my boy I have been toying with the idea of going hunting - drag hunting mind. After watching this, I am not sure if I can bare even the thought of it. Watch it until the end:

My thinking is that is totally different to hunting in this country, even pre-ban hunting. Obviously, hunting live quarry is now illegal with a pack of hounds but there is a huge difference between hounds hunting a fox and killing it quickly and what happens in that video. There's a big difference between stalking a deer or other animal and shooting it, and that video.
I am pro and have no qualms with hunting foxes, who have half a chance if they're in their own country, so have an idea where they're going, healthy and fit. I would not go on one of these hunts, though, I really can't see the purpose of it?

They don't kill the deer when they can, so it's not for food, and it's released specifically for the hunt, so unlike fox hunting is not pest control. Surely it would be easier to trail hunt than have this cruelty go on?

Another point is they don't really have control of their hounds, as can be seen when they surround the deer at the end, and the hounds seem to wander around aimlessly once it's cornered. It also seems quite foolish to have the deer running through fields of cows and horses, which can cause damage to the stock and get hounds injured.

good lord! I never even knew they did that! Thats just barbaric, the only saving grace was that it didnt get ripped to shreds....

I couldn't watch it, as I was not expecting to see a deer! I thought it was about jumping a big hedge or something... Since I am anti chase anything to it's death - I would be definitely anti what happened on here. Horrid I am sure.

If you are going draghunting in Kent I very much doubt you will encounter anything like this!! Draghounds, for a start don't hunt live quarry!

Staghunting here is carried out within the law, ie: two hounds to flush out the deer that is shot at the first opportunity. Due to staghunting we have the very finest herd of wild red deer in the country.

I very much doubt that you will ever find the sort of practise shown in that video carried out in this country.

Carry on and go for your day's hunting - I am sure you will love it and keep a clear conscience

Oh man. I am not lily livered but when I saw the start of the vid, with the deers clearly taken to the meet, I realised it was sick.

It smacks to me of those documentaries that exposed the African game reserves that drugged the animals so fat idiots with too much money and a wrong mind could shoot them from close range and feel like a man.

Whatever this is, this is wrong. I have never stag hunted and know nothing about it; I used to work on a hunting yard for a fabulous man who adored his horses and all animals. He stag hunted with the Beaufort; when challenged, all he would say was "you've heard the expression, "a stag at bay"". I never made my mind up about that, but I know for a fact he was not indulging in anything like this.

Ok we need to establish that if you decide to go drag hunting with your boy this is not going to happen !!!!

What does happen is you have to get up early on a Saturday morning to do your plaits get your horse on the box drive to the pub have a drink with your mates get on your horse in all you best gear trot down the road following some dogs that know there job and love going for a run - then you get to go for a great gallop get covered in mud pop the odd post and rail maybe a hedge over a pre planned course then guess what you end up back at the pub ! Followed with a great nights sleep and some Sunday tack cleaning !

It is very unlikely anything will die !

(I'm not having a pop, I just don't think the 2 things can be put in the same bracket)

After others comments I am not going to watch the video, I am not particularly anti or pro hunting, however, after doing the Charnwood SE ride about 3 weeks ago around Beacon Park, I remember saying to my friend as we looked at the Deer and Stags, one of them a white one, why would anyone want to kill such a beautiful creature, if there are too many of them then maybe a breeding program, letting them breed and then killing them for "pleasure" seems sick and pointless, to me anyway, obviously Foxes are a different debate.

If you want to give hunting a go but are worried about animal cruelty try bloodhounds. The only thing they chase to its death is a man in trainers and lycra leggings, and to be honest he normally survives long enough to have butties and a cuppa after!
