Buying my first ever set of clippers this year and am very excited to not have to pay someone to do it anymore! (Although im slighlty concerned that im going to get 'Clipper Happy' and end up with a bald pony!)
Im need to get cordless ones as theres no electric on our yard and have been looking at the Huntmaster range as these also wont break the bank!

Has anyone used these before? What did you think of them? Or if you can recommend better ones, that would be great too.
 
As far as I am aware, neither company produce a cordless "clipper" only rechargeable trimmers. If you are looking for a rechargeable/cordless clipper, then it will either be a Lister or Heinegar. I know neither is cheap, but buying cheap clippers is and always will be false economy. Try the info below from a reply I gave someone earlier.

Heinegar every time. The cordless market is dominated by the Lister Liberty which is a good machine, but it is very expensive once you purchase the battery pack etc. The Heinegar is the next best at a better price. Plus you get the benefit of better quality that the Chinese rubbish being touted under lots of spurious brand names. A proper 12 month warranty and best of all. Clipper blades which are made from top quality steel. Not recycled Chinese Battleships. A second battery with the Heinegar is a wise investment, also ensure your blades are always properley sharpened, which will ensure less tension on the motor and longer battery life.

I agree with the comment above about cheap clippers being a false economy. I've known others buy cheap clippers and having constant problems with them after a while. I've had a Liveryman Arena C130 for my cob that is full clipped all year round and it has lasted me for 10 years now with no repairs ever needed to it.

The Harmony clipper is quiet and reliable and the battery lasts up to 3 hours and at £205.50 at the link above they aren't that expensive compared to some of the other clippers on the market.

If you look at the rechargeable "trimmers" many of these only last for about an hour clipping if you are lucky. I have friend who does a lot of clipping of nervous horses for other people and she has the harmony clipper which she swears by and has had it for years. They are great if you have nervous horses that are jumping around everywhere as no cords to get tangled in or for the horse to be frigthened of.

Wahl Avalon are cordless and are lovely little clippers if you only have one or two horses. The blades are smaller than standard clippers so it will take you a little longer but they do a sterling job for less than £200 AND have a reputable name. The only thing they really wouldn't be up to is clipping off heavy cob feathers but for a standard horse, they're fine. Blade re-sharpening has a quick turnaround and is only £6.50 too.
