Husky...

Was just wondering if you where anywhere near us as would say your very welcome to come visit and attend a training session or rally with us and see exactly why we put ourselves through what we do :)[/QUOTE]

Oh, thats nice of you. I am not ignorant about Huskies though, my friend breeds them.

Ok genuine question then- if these dogs are so complicated, difficult and time consuming to own then why have them? Seriously, there are hundreds of other breeds out there. Is it just because they are so beautiful that makes people want them?

Because once their needs are met they are the most fantastic dogs and characters.

I also don't know many people who have them (and own the well) who don't run them either as a pack or singly on a bike/ scooter. You won't find a better dog for that.

I'm ABLAZE with cognitive dissonance when faced with your above statement and your previous questions. But I'm full of smiles that your breeder friend is educational. :)

Do they show/work their dogs? will probably know them if so :D

Excellent post BC is rather fabulous isnt she, if I was ever to breed a litter and she contacted me interested in a pup i`d have no qualms with putting her at the top of my list

:D :D :D

Dooooo it. Doooooo it! I am very sure I could persuade Mr BC to have a little fuzzy malasnoot pup.

...if I snuck it home under my coat without telling him. :p Dax would be so pleased, the only thing she wants for in life at the moment is a companion.

Also you are very lovely and flattering. :D

As for GeeGeeboy - so nothing complicated and time-consuming is worth doing, then? I can't imagine why people bother having children, it must be rather lifechanging.

Any dog can have a loss of recall from time to time for any reason-no dogs recall is 100%
Also, why do the majority Husky owners think they are more "special" and "dedicated" than 'normal' dog owners!?

As some on here may have realised, we GSD owners think we are pretty special, but I take my hat off to husky owners (or the ones who do it properly anyway). I was one of the people who tried to warn BC off when she was considering a husky, and fully admit that when she took on Dax I waited for the disasters. But she has shown more dedication than most in persevering with her girl, and having met the lovely Dax twice I take my hat off to her for producing a beautifully natured, well rounded girl.
People who have specialised in a breed for years should be listened to, you can't beat experience, although as said above you never stop learning.

I fully understand why people want Huskys, they are beautiful dogs. OH always says he wants one untill I show him threads on here about their recall / destruction / seperation anxiety issues.

I will stick to my simple little terriers thank you :)

I cant undestand why people bother having children either- but thats another story!:p
My point really was- there are many other less complicated/time consuming and wonderful breeds to own so why Huskies!? But never mind.

I suppose each to his own GeeGee :) Kinda like when someone buys a high strung TB rather than a chilled out cob isnt it?

And only with a husky do you get that unique thrill of applying your brakes only to find that they are so wet/muddy/dog running so fast that they don't do a damn thing and you're swiftly approaching a downhill section.

Darn, it hasn't come out in the photo - that's what you get for taking pictures of brown things in brown woodland :p - but the culprit was a deer, right at the top of the track. :)

Not that I would ever describe myself as any of that as it's normal to me, but possibly because owning a pack of huskies is a lifestyle choice as opposed to owning a pet. From mid September to the end of March (roughly) we are out training four times a week at least. That often means getting up at 5am (frequently earlier), driving to somewhere you are allowed to train (that can be well over an hour for many people) and hooking up your team(s) to run. This is rain, hail or shine! With my husband in the sand pit for 3 months I am currently doing all of this myself as well as working full time.

Most of us have big vans, which are then kitted out with permanent dog cages, fans and various hooks and lights etc. You then have all the equipment to buy including harnesses, lines and a three wheeled rig but can also include a heavy weight passenger cart, a quad bike, sled, trailer for said things, decent headtorches etc etc. The dogs themselves are not cheap and have to be fed on the very best food and generally also meat especially in winter. At least my van doubles up as a Horse trailer tower!!

In Summer when it's too hot to run you have to get up extra early to try and get out for a short run when it is cool enough, or, you have a LOT of walking to do. That's not to mention the expense of building a dog run or runs and changing your entire house and garden to suit. We outgrew our last house because of the dogs, and I can see the same happening again.

You may say what about those with one husky? Well, we were that person once and look what happened. Most Husky people are the same. It just sort of happens! Our last two holidays have been to Alaska, in winter.

That's why we are a bit different. The amount of money, hard work and dedication that goes in is huge and we sacrifice a lot for it. We both work hard and full time so why not spend our money on what we enjoy?! I liken it to children - we don't have any of those. Couldn't afford both, LOL.

They are good at keeping me warm at night mind you!!
