I know the ground got pretty bad, but what on earth happened in the 90 at Hutton today, i watched about 20 go in a row with no clears, did anyone do it and what did they think?

I did the 100 and did not SJ till nearly 5pm. The ground was very, very holding. My young horse struggled as he has never been asked to jump in anything similar as I have protected him a bit. We had the first down and 2 stops but it did feel like jumping out of glue and he has a fair bit of ID in him - I would guess lighter horses would fare better.
Anyway I topped that by missing the finish XC  How did you fare?

I went about 4ish in the 100 and thought that the SJ ground was a bit of a quagmire, though not as bad as the dressage! I don't think any around me went clear (we had 1 down which is fair to middling with our record!).

rubbish really, and i had the best of the ground early on, had 2 down and was loading up to go home after the XC....but then noticed that my awful round (where I was lucky to stay on at one point due to shocking rider error) was still in with a chance... there was only 18 clears in 4 sections of intro??!! I've seen far far worse ground over the years.....maybe we've just got so used to hard ground over the summer?

I saw your SJ :)
Thought your boy worked hard to get out of the going but was not really enjoying it compared to other clips you have posted of him.

I have to say it's the first time I have been pleased to be first round a course ;)!

Tbh BE90, this sounds awful but I don't think it was completely the course as I saw some interesting riding in the morning, although the BE100 I think was due to the ground and course mainly, plus they are light flimsy, and easily breakable poles ;)!

agree completely - wasn't competing but working on one of the tradestands with a very good view of the sj. There was some very 'interesting' (good choice of word there!) riding and some very genuine (and not so genuine) horses. There was a huge difference between standard of be90 and be100 - and ground deteriorated for the be100's so that was more contributing factor for them i think.

Jumptoit - you weren't on a dark coloured pony were you? I was walking the SJing and only got as far as 5 and suddenly someone (the first BE100JR person) was in the ring and the bell was ringing and I had to scamper out smartish. Very springy pony, broke to trot before every fence but jumped a lovely clear and everyone round us commented on how well ridden it was and how the jockey did well to let it jump in its own style and not bully it. Very smart riding if that was you!

I got placed in the BE100 with 2 down , which is a trifle embarrassing. Had no. 5 (smallest fence on the course ) and no. 7 (largest!). I just went half a gear too quickly I would say to enable him to get out of the ground but barely touched either fence so was a trifle disappointed. Thin poles, eh? ;) I went almost right at the end of the day so ~110 horses had jumped the BE100 track before my turn and boy could you tell!

Ooops Hels_Bels I may have had something to do with that :o! To be fair there was a tractor !

Apologies to those of you who had to warm up with half a pole but I did mention it to the steward!

Yes that was me, thank you Gamebird :), she does have her own style bless her!

My plan for the winter is to try and get her more confident at cantering in but she just likes to sort herself out so I didn't want to try and mess things up before the seasons over!

Well done for your result, sounds like the ground was awful, it's the first time I've been peased to be early on!

Jumptoit - was that you on the "trotting horse" that GB mentions? If so, he was one of the highlights of the day!!! So careful and a lovely horse who made it look so easy even in those conditions. Don't worry about the pole just glad to hear you were ok if it was you that broke it!!

hi
i was in the 90 in the morning (black/white horse) it was mayhem :o

i only had 1 unlucky pole down but i may not have been very stylish as i had quite a wait in the warm up and was also watching the carnage which was making me nervous :(

the ground was bad but not as bad as they were making it look

My horse who is VERY green went in the BE90. We got a bit deep into the 2nd fence and had it down but was otherwise fine, so finished with 4 faults.
The person who gave me a lift to Hutton went on to critise my SJ as not being 'fluid, messy, looked awful et etc. I also got a barrage of critism for my Dressage, and despite a clear xc got a bit for that. Did anyone see me jump and was I that bad???
I was quite pleased with pony, only his 5th BE90, and only 2nd clear xc, but with everyone tellimg me how crapp I was spoiled my day :(
jumotit- Saw you pony jumping, AMAZING! How?! but it works for him, and was very neat!

I can honestly tell you it was none of the 4 faulters that I saw and thought the above so it was definitely neither of you and if you only had the one down over that course then it really can't have been that bad!

The ones I though were erm interesting were the ones that were getting scores of at least 12!

Dominobrown - She's a bit special! Trouble is everyone says to stick the jumps up and she'll canter but she'll jump a 1m 15 spread like that so it's going to take a good while to get her out of the habit, but she's fine over 90 courses now just likes to get the perfect take off spot if they're any bigger!

Hels_Bells - It was definitely me, she jumped right through the pole and then landed on it with her hind legs but yep she's fine, fortunately my Dad was helping me warm up so he had it straight back up before I had time to panic!

oww its horrible when people do that ,can really spoil your day ,hope you haven't took it to heart.
sounds like you did really well ,don't take any notice
i think 4flts was as good as clear yesterday in the sj :D
i have someone who comes with me sometimes who walks the xc with me going "oh i'd jump that and that etc " but can't get around a 2'6 clear round
gets right on my nerves because i think i'm gonna look a right prat if i mess this up and anything can happen xc
then try and get her to do an 80t and its oh i think i'm busy that weekend

Thanks peeps. The main thing is its MY horse, he will never be for sale so it doesn't matter about his record, and all we want to do is have FUN! Done some research and the person making comments hasn't actually evented before, or infact show jumped before. It is very easy to sit/stand by the side of the ring and say this and that, but when you are on the horse its a compeatly different kettle of fish.
