Hi all, just wanted a bit of advice from regular eventers if poss.

I have been eventing my 7 year old at 90 and feel ready to go up to 100. We have three more 90's entered first. I school 100 with some novice fences at home and it's all fine to him.

I'm just now wondering which is a better venue for a first 100. Hutton or Malpas. He's really really good at big bold fences as in proper x country hunter type jumps or steeplechase fences, ditches, water trakheners. He will go over but tends to have a look at really fussy jumps such as little toadstools with gnomes sitting on them, I have tried to get him to as many fussy courses in the 90 that I can and like I say he tends to go clear but probably for our first 100 I'm looking for good bold natural looking course... Any idea's?

thanks in advance.

Form what you say Hutton will definitely suit. More galloping and bold than a lot and not gimmicky at all. Never done Malpas but Hutton is lovely and sounds like it would suit your horse well :)

Hi,
I'll be doing Malpas. I have heard Hutton is a lovely course but Malpas is much nearer for me . From what you have stated Malpas would suit your horse. I did it last year and walking it scared me to death! It had three huge hedges and a massive trakener but from that sounds right up your street. It rode really well and is a big bold old fashioned type course. Good Luck !

Yup malpas sounds ideal for your horse as above a lovely old fashioned galloping course ditches and big hedges I think it has a half coffin too which is sloped so causes problems but not for the brave

Thankyou! Yep big and scary and solid is fine, small and bitty with scary gnomes peeping out is OMG! I might enter Malpas then although Hutton sounds fine for him too...

I've entered into Eland lodge and then looked at some course photos and saw the greengrocers shop haha! He's sooooo gonna have a good look at that one!

thank you!
