Hwlp - quick advice needed: Girth!

I need to get a new girth today, fatty pony has actually lost some weight, woohoo!

Not sure what size the current one is - do I measure it from end of one buckle to end of the buckle at the other end?

It's almost on the top hole on both sides when done up so am wondering whether to buy one that's two sizes (4 inches) smaller or just do down one size?

Advice gratefully received, am ging shopping this afternoon!!

i measure buckle to buckle, why not take old girth with you & measure against others

I measure buckle to buckle too and went for one that was one size smaller, otherwise it is hard to do them up because new girths are always a bit stiff and you are messing about with the end of the strap so it is tricky.

Thanks folks, have measured current one and it's 48 inches buckle to buckle. I would just go down one size but he's still losing weight so might go down two, but not sure?

i'd go down 2 sizes, maybe get elasticated such as wintec with elastic in the middle (never at one end only!), which would make it give a little.
