Hydrotherapy

Not personally but I visited a new local fantastic racing yard for a visit a couple of weeks ago and they have a pool and they swear by it. All their horses get a swim very regularly (not sure how many times per week). Each horse gets up to 20 mins swim at a time. They build up to it as some have never been in the water before.

You can hire the facility out and I think the cost was around £20 per horse.

I was going to take my 3 year old up to a local equine spa for 4 days ....Were she would recieve 2 treatments of hydrotherapy a day . They gave me a rough estimation of £160 which I didn't think was too bad at .

the hydrotherapy spa is an amazing thing, it really does get results and cured a pony at our yard who had tendonitius.

My boy twisted his fetlock and within 1 week swelling was gone because we took him to spa 3 times in that week - i will defo be going to spa more often!!

It is fantastic. My boy got treated for a splint in the spa, and it did reduce is significantly. I brought him from a yard with a spa aswell, and some of the stuff they had had in for treatment was seriously nasty, and the spa had very very good results. We've got one locally, and know they have fantastic results with a huge range of injuries. If I had any questions ove rmy horses legs/feet, she would go up there in a shot

I have sent two or three of mine for spa treatment, two went with kick injuries and one just has horrid flat feet and used to go after he ran xc. Had excellent results with them all. One horse had a nasty kick to the stifle, vet stapled it and I took it straight to the spa for a week to have two treatments a day. Vets could not believe the speed it healed and were very impressed. End result was superb as no scarring. The full livery bill is what pushed the price up on this one but worth every penny.

Hi Oberon - I run an equine spa. We charge £25 + VAT for clients on livery and £30+VAT for clients who come in just for the spa.

For longer term clients we have a variety of offers but the basic one is buy 10 sessions get 1 free.

Many places insist on the horse being sedated before the first time in the spa. My personal preference when we spa is to not sedate, but instead we use a half door.

If you would like more info please PM me or else take a look at my website. (My name on here with.co.uk after it!!)

My mare used a spa for 5 days after getting stuck in some barbed wire and getting some rather nasty cuts. One of the cuts got infected and on arriving at the spa she could hardly walk or put her foot the the ground. After 5 days of daily treatment she was totally sound and her usually puff legs had gone totally down evenafter aweek of box rest at the vets. Where she went was £40 a session, they had the vet in attendance for the first session but she was fine and iseven going back this weekend to be a model for the spaopen weekend ! Would definatly reccomend thisfor a variety of conditions
