Has anyone used hypnosis either through actual sessions or through listening to CDs to help with issues? I am beginning to think that this may be my last chance to help with my lack of confidence when jumping, especially horses other than my own and even more so in lesson situations.
I have had many good instructors, all with different approaches to helping me deal with the issue and although I will always jump whatever I have to, the issue has not gone away and now I haven't jumped since June I am worried about starting jumping again. This issue is holding me back from applying for my stage 3.

Has anyone used it for a similar issue and has success? I am considering downloading a few CDs and then look into going to some sessions next year.
Has anyone had any success with this method and would you recommend it?

Thanks for any replies

I have tried hypnosis, actually went and saw someone. Umm not convinced whether it works. It was expensive so I only had a couple of sessions. I think in the end I have found that finding the right instructor workded for me.

I had a riding accident and also completely lost all my confidence jumping to the point where i wouldnt even go over a pole on the floor

I had read a review on Hypnotherapy CDs in a horsey mag and thought it was worth a try.
I got the Confident Rider Series jumping with confidence CD and have found it has made a huge difference! I was sceptical at first and wasn't sure what to expect having never done this before but by the time I had listened to it once i already felt much better and after several listens felt confident to canter over a 1ft6 jump!

I still listen to it now even though I dont get nervous (despite jumping bigger fences and competing) but the night before a competition i often put it on and it helps me relax and fall asleep whilst drifting into my subconscious!

is the website
I think its also better because they do CDs for most aspects of riding including flatwork, hacking and XC riding among others

plus the best part is they're only a one off payment of around £14 so they're much cheaper than repeated visits to a hypnotherapist! plus you can have a listen of a sample before you buy

My OH actually practices hypnosis so he's given me some really good techniques for doing things like thinking through a course or a dressage test, improving my mindset, etc.

However, I have to say that it depends on what the issue is - hypnosis can, I think, help with a lot of stuff but I think it's best to also have someone on the ground as your confidence will only get knocked again if you come into a jump badly or have a nasty fall or something.
