So now that Zoomy is all mine I have got her insured. In terms of her insurance value, I'd be interested to hear what you think. I'm keeping shtum about my thoughts

Insurers can be funny about insuring for more than you paid for them in my experience. Did you say you had been given her? You may need to discuss what they would accept. I would have thought maybe someweher from £1000 - £1500?

Erm, because of the lack of an eye, and of course I also know what you paid for her, I would go with the Insurers minimum, which I think is usually £ 500.

This is no reflection on Zoom, who sounds a cracking horse, but I'm guessing that her eye situation would seriously affect her resale value?

Please don't think I'm being rude about her, I'm not. Just trying to think what I would do in your situation, which is to insure for the cheapest amount possible lol!

Agree with GoldDust that she is PRICELESS!

I spoke to the insurance company and she is classed as 'gifted' to me so I can insure her for whatever I like. I decided on £1500. I agree she would probably be hard to sell on since she has one eye but she's a good allrounder so thought that would be a fair price.

Yes that is fair, I was thinking £ 500 because you have no outlay to recoup and make it the cheapest possible premium!

I have just effectively devalued my horse by £ 3000 to get cheaper premiums. It doesn't affect the cover and I get but radically reduced my premium.

PMSL at excluding her eye. I can imagine the certificate!

Must say though it's really great seeing a horse with only one eye that is proving she is still capable of allsorts. It obviously doesn't hold her back at all.

It's quite comforting really as my mare has a tiny cataract from an injury. Means I don't need to let her get away with anything!

If she ever needs a new home I'd like her sending my way. She's a cracking horse and a good example of what ex-polo horses and horses with 'handicaps'

can go on to do.
