Yet again looking to upgrade my 4x4..interested in comments from anyone that has the new Santa Fe( 2.2 diesel manual).
Looking for a tow vehicle weekends, to and fro work ( 100 miles a day) and UK holidays with the dogs.
So far looking a good choice due to sufficient towing capacity, level of spec on the premium model, space, mpg and most of all the price..............all comments welcome!!

my friend has an 05 model, i think its a very nice car, tows well and it isnt a big 4x4 like a disco or range rover its a good size!

I have a hyundai coupe which have had for 5 years and has been fantastic. Hardly any problems. am looking to upgrade to a Tucson this year though as coupe really struggles down yard tracks and bad weather so also intrested in any comments on this!

Not amazingly helpful though to OP - sorry!

I knew someone who had a Santa Fe but it was about 6 yrs ago, it was new then though. He had awful trouble with it, not mechanically wise, just the fact it didnt seem to be able to cope with the towing. He did tow 2 horses though. Im sure it was something to do with the axles or propshaft??? but it was major. The warranty wouldnt cover it the 2nd time it went as they said it wasnt up to the job but he did check with the dealers when he bought it and they said it was fine. He got it repaired and got rid. It was years ago so maybe they have changed now.

We have the 54plate 2L diesel manual. Have had it for 4 years now, and would replace it with another quite happily BUT we only tow one 16hh TB type.

I wouldn't tow more than that. However, it also does OH's commuting so is ideal for our needs. Sis has the big brother, the terracan, which is ugly but a complete workhorse when it comes to towing, (2x 17.2++ and doesn't notice them!) though a fair bit thirstier!

I've got the 07 model - I believe the 2010 model is similar just updated. It's been a great car, tows well but is also a comfortable road car when not towing - plenty of poke on the motorways and overtaking. Reliability has been fab, the only things that have gone wrong are the central locking mechanisims on two doors broke (wouldn't unlock) but this is a known fault and were fixed without quibble under the warranty and some part in the air con broke but again this was a known fault and fixed under the warranty. I think they're excellent value for money as they are so well specced and I get 33mpg out of mine when towing. My lease on it ends next month and I can't afford to swap it for another new one but I wouldn't hesitate to get another one if I could afford it.
