I currently have a hyundai coupe - big engine, flies down the motorway and touchwood hardly had anything go wrong on it the past few years. It however is a nightmare down country roads, tracks and in the ice and snow - resulting in being on holiday in bad weather.

I am seriously considering a tucson - If mine hadnt been so reliable I probably wouldnt have considered hyundai. I wont be towing in it or anything but will get a 4 wheel drive one 2 litre and hopefully that will be better than mine in winter to get out my street etc

Just wanted to know what peoples experiences of them are - seems you get alot of car for your money but how much are they to run and tax etc - my coupe is £130 every six months so just looking at the difference before i ring about part ex'ing mine:D

My mum has one and is very happy with it, although she wanted a diesel but they didn't have any in the price range at the time. The petrol is far too heavy on fuel and she is trying to exchange for a diesel if she can. The plus sides of Hyundai (as you will probably know) are you get a lot for your money, you get a 5 year warranty and the cars are pretty reliable. As far as offroad capabilities go they are fine but my Suzuki Vitara DDis (new shape) was far better and I felt much more confident in that than in my mums one.

However, for the money, the Hyundai you definitely get more - my mums has leather seats (the front ones are heated), cruise control, heated wipers etc etc. I think hers is a 57 reg so the newer ones may have even more gadgets than hers. I do like the fact with the car that the majority of the time it is 2WD but automatically changes to 4WD if it loses traction and then you have the option of locking it in 4WD when required. It doesn't have the differential lock that the Vitara has which was BRILLIANT in the snow and ice as it prevents swering etc and neither does it have the option of the low ratio gearbox if you REALLY get stuck!

All in all though I feel they are a good buy and SOOO much cheaper than the likes of your freelanders etc. I would avoid the petrol engine though as the diesel is more fuel efficient and has a lot more oomph! My mums Tucson lacks power somewhat.

Thank you thats really helpful - most I have seen are diesel and looking at 06/07 plate

I might also look at the suzuki then aswell

Suzuki you don't get as much for your money and you only get a 3 year warranty. Shame really, if they all did 5 year then that'd be a lot better!!! Def opt for the diesel though. We drove the newer version which was a diesel (actually it may have been a Santa Fe) but it had much mpre power than the petrol.
