Hi all

Looking at the Hyundai Tuscon 2015 or newer 2.0 CRDI 185bhp to tow my ifor williams (920kg) and my 15hh mare (approx 475kg) - it advises this model of the tuscon has 2200kg tow capacity but there are few and far between reviews on how well it actually tows horses.

Does anyone have any honest reviews before I part with a lot of money for a car that's not up to the job!

For reference this car will be my everyday car towing 2/3 times per month and for a family car. When towing it will either be a 65 mile round trip (flat terrain) or a 40 mile round trip (with one very steep hill to get up and back down) both me and partner have passed our BE licenses so we are fine to be on the road !

Thanks in advance

A friend had one and felt it was a bit underpowered (nothing terrible, just struggled a bit up hills) but it was an older model (I think a 2013?) and I'm not sure of the engine size. Even if it's the same size engine it could have changed to different one altogether in that time frame so maybe I'm not being that helpful!

Mine was an older model (2008) and, being wiser now, I would never recommend it for towing the setup you describe, as that is almost the same as I was towing. Although my Tucson model was 2L diesel, 4D, and should easily have been able to tow it always felt underpowered. It always got up the hllls, but you had to keep changing down the gears, finally even to first at times! Poor acceleration towing too, so overtaking was almost never done! I even had to replace my clutch at one point, which I have never had to do in all my many years of driving.

However, it is still a very popular make and model so perhaps the new version with its increased BHP is more suitable for the job. I think you will have to keep looking for new users to find out.

Personally I think 2.2l is too small for live cargo - you've got to remember that the natural movement of the animal will periodically increase your inertia by quite a lot

It's not the same as a deadweight that doesn't move

I've got a Tucson 2.0 CRDI 185PS (182bhp) SE Nav 4WD Automatic and I wouldn't tow with it.

Had a Sorrento and a Discovery before which were fine for towing but although the Tucson is powerful and fast and a great everyday car I just feel it's too light to be a real tow car.
